I read the novel it's based on a while back, and so far the show is a very good 
adaptation - I'm sure it helps that the book's author is the one writing the 
scripts (at least on the first three episodes).

But, yes, it's yet another alternate-timeline/multiple-universe kind of thing.

[TV orNotTV] TV's First Game Show Model Star Dies at 95

Long before Vanna, there was Dolores Roxanne Rosedale (who went only by her 
middle name), who appeared every Saturday night on the original CBS version 
of "Beat the Clock," snapping  a photo of the couples in the aftermath of 
the more gungy stunts with her camera loaded with the sponsor's Sylvania 
Blue Dot flashbulbs ("Blue Dot for sure shots")--at one point a doll was 
made of her and was given away by host Bud Collyer if the couples had 
brought their kids with them--she left the show in 1955 to have a baby and 
pursue an acting career, which at its height included appearing with 
Marilyn Monroe in "The Seven-Year Itch," but eventually went to parenthood 
full-time--she died May 2 in her birthplace of Minneapolis:

They will infuse the show with youth. The youth has too much contempt for
itself to watch themselves. It will go the way of DL Hughley’s short-lived

cycles over 34 years on the BBC), which has been rumored to have an 
American version coming for years (to give you an idea of how long it's 
been, at one point Norm MacDonald was being considered for host), will 
finally be coming in a U.S. version this fall to CNN (no date announced, 
although it's believed it'll get a Saturday night slot next to the repeat 
of HBO's "Real Time with Collie Molester"):

I can’t stomach Olberman, who did much to discredit MSNBC as a legitimate
news organization. I don’t consider it both-sidesism to allege a liberal
slant to the network’s broadcasts, but I also don’t consider most of their
programming to be journalistic in nature. They are op-ed shows talking
about the news instead of reporting it. Is Olberman claiming otherwise?

i just realised that I don't think I watched the last 1-2 seasons of Magnum
PI, as I was out of town in University and doing other important things.

On a related note, I have 5 seasons of new Magnum PI on my plex server that
I don't think I've watched much of either.I seem to recall reading that
around season 4 or 5 that Magnum and Higgins get it on.
