only aware of it because us "olds" keep bringing it up. It has been 23

Having literally just gotten back on Thursday from a last-minute trip to
see"Merrily We Roll Along", I would recommend it a thousand times over if
it wasn't closing in a month.

My wife went to Empire State Building to check it off her bucket list, but
I think Top Of The Rock is a better view and a better price.

The High Line is excellent as well as was mentioned earlier in the thread.

You will find this amusing: my 10-year-old son, a voracious reader, turned
down a visit to Strand because he felt "they wouldn't have enough fiction
I'd like", despite my reassurance that I think they'd meet his needs just
fine. We wound up going to Books Are Magic in Brooklyn (an independent
bookstore he found in his researching).

For those who don't know, a "walk-off" home run is a home run that ends the
game, always for the home team. This is an interview with the director for
SNY, who broadcasts games for the NY Mets, on how he handled a particular
walk-off a couple of weeks ago against the St Louis Cardinals. It's a
ripping read, even if you're not a baseball fan, because of what he's got
to think about and choose from in about 40 seconds.

As I understand it, the original masters still exist, but are no longer
available if someone wanted to for whatever reason wanted to rerun the show
(that's how they were able to make the latest DVD collection for Shout that
had some but not all of the music restored.)

1. You don't want to waste a substitute (you only have five subs in three

2. Yellow cards accumulate both within and outside matches: when you get a

Yesterday I was at lunch when the noon SportsCenter did a three-minute live
segment on Best Fantasy League Defense/Special Teams, complete with Booger
McFarland dialed in.

Smack dab in the middle of both the NHL and NBA playoffs (both of which
ESPN owns rights to) and baseball starting to heat up and a variety of
futbol leagues getting to the tail end of their seasons.

One can not escape The Shield.

For my money, the "best" part of it was when Jost slipped and called her
Cecile, subtly tipping the hand. It was uncomfortable, weird, and one of
the best moments on SNL in a while.

It's important to note that Morris has a history here, going back to his
playing days. There was a legendary incident in 1990 when he told a female
*intern* at the Freep “I don’t talk to people when I’m naked, especially
women, unless they’re on top of me or I’m on top of them.”. So suffice to
say any empathy for Morris should be used for something more valuable,
like the fact that I root for a team who doesn't seem actually
interested in winning now that they got their flag.

[TV orNotTV] From Matthew: Why No Closed Captioning?

I have been stymied by a question from my seven-year-old regarding closed
captioning.

While watching The Simpsons episode "Simpson Tide", he noticed that in the
scene where they play The Village People singing "YMCA", the captioning did
not include the lyrics to the song. He asked me why that was, and I took a
stab at some sort of rights issue. But he then noticed that in the next
episode, "The Trouble With Trillions", Smithers sings a couple lines from
"Everything's Coming Up Roses", and those lines do appear. And I remember
seeing the lyrics from "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" at the end of
"Dumbbell Indemnity"

Could anyone help explain this further?

So I watched it with my beloved and a dear friend. They both liked it. I
was rather meh. My friend had never heard of Corden and kept asking me "Why
does he keep talking like that? Is that a bit?" and I had to tell her that
sadly, no, it was not.

It could've been so much better (besides way less Corden). The hodgepodge
nature of the program, jumping from thing to thing, drove me nuts. The
random nature of the celebrities was pointless. I think it's telling they
didn't bring back Aisha Tyler, Jane Sibbert, or Jessica Hecht (i.e. The
Black Girlfriend and The Lesbians). The show has started aging rapidly in
the last few years: reminding us how very, very white and straight it was
doesn't help.

career earnings, plus 43 career titles.

Also, Pete's Dad, Dick, was no slouch either. Together the two of them was
who brought bowling into the 70s.
