And one vestige of SNC lives on--when ABC took over ESPN, they give the net the SNC music package, since the channel had such a short life with little carriage. They immediately used one of the cuts on the package as the theme for SportsCenter (which contained the dah-da- dah-da-da-DAHHH... line that I assume was SNC's primary theme) and then a few years later switched to another cut from the package which featured a certain three-note repeated signature--and I don't think I need to describe that to you any more. Unfortunately, co-composer Annie Roboff doesn't see a penny of royalties, since she and her partner sold off the package to ABC for a flat fee (but considering she co-wrote the Faith Hill song This Kiss, among other things, she's not doing bad). -- TV or Not TV The Smartest (TV) People! Anderson Cooper has gone against that particular grain by frequently challenging his satellite guests with facts and figures that contradict whatever cockamamie bs they've made elsewhere. -- TV or Not TV The Smartest (TV) People! Of course, CNN's response will be that Nancy Grace and Joy Behar do better numbers in prime time and that TV ad buyers are flummoxed with short-attention-span radio-style formats on cable TV (see MTV, VH1, TWC, etc.). -- TV or Not TV The Smartest (TV) People! I'd just like to say that I'm tired of MSNBC being depicted as the liberal channel in contrast to Fox's extreme conservatism. MSNBC has exactly two liberals (not counting the occasional guest host or commentator): Rachel and Ed. Everyone else is either conservative, moderate, or locked into the Beltway mentality. --Dake Sikula On Mar 23, 12:40 pm, PGage pga...@gmail.com wrote: This is actually a pretty good strategy that amounts to focusing on delivering the news. Fox won by suckering CNN into the argument about whether or not they had a liberal bias. CNN is better off letting Fox (and MSNBC now) argue about partisan ideologies, and trying to regain their reputation as a source of serious news. -- TV or Not TV The Smartest (TV) People! But what is true is that they have consciously decided to brand themselves ideologically (accurately or not), and I think that does take them out of the straight news niche. -- TV or Not TV The Smartest (TV) People!
