I've been checking for the last 24 hrs and telling her she just has to be patient and that it's probably a glitch (albeit a very very distressing one). It seems that after posting here to the dev group the glitch has resolved itself and over 2500 favorites have returned. If anyone at Twitter was responsible, thanks very much.
