internal server error 500 when requesting friends list

when i try to geht an answer from the server using php with this
command: file_get_contents('http://twitter.com/statuses/friends/
username.json?rpp=10'),
i get an failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 500
Internal Server Error message.
(tried different usernames)

whats the problem ?
