Is that a bug (known?) or should I change anything in my config (because of a

yeah categories are imported to the place they have been before. if you

maybe the topic has been broad up a bit often by you already? This post
is even a new thread which doesn't help at all. A sentence like "does
not work" is also not helpful. Is the content indexed?

Anyhow being readonly at your threads I still wonder which setup to you
got because you run into problems I never have seen. Same at forge in
your recently submitted report [1]

> IS issues on Forge just keep untouched, since

You sound like indexed_search is the most awesome search experience you
can have! That is certainly not true. There are alternatives which can
hardly be reached by indexed_search. The reason is simply because the
alternative is made for search and uses something really useful.

Yes indexed_search could be improved a lot but in the end, it still
won't be a competitor to solr & co.

not true.

are there any unit tests for indexed search? I doubt.

If any product fits better for your needs, please use it!

However solr is an awesome tool (not only the extension itself but the
product I am talking about) which can be used to fulfill things you will
*never* get with indexed_search.

And yes it is not that hard to set it up, no matter if working on
windows or unix and there are also TYPO3 hosters which did that work
already for you.

There is also a table "pages" for the page structure and every field
"pid" of any table === pages.uid

But the records with CType "image" and "list" still resist me. I
> can't find where these datas are stored. Could someone help me ?

"Image" is a "image element" (surprise, surprise) and if the TYPO3
version is >= 6.0 (which you can find out if you got the table
sys_file), then there is a mm relation from tt_content to sys_file using
sys_file_reference. Otherwise you got the file names of the files in the
dump and the files are usually saved unter uploads/*

"List" is an element plugin which is usually delivered by an 3rd party
extension and can just show content which is saved in the element itself
or is kind of a startingpoint for displaying any other kind of records,
could be e.g. news records.

- you have no hassles with strange styles happening
- it is very easy to diff changes as it text based
- it is very easy to contribute to documentation as it is textbased
- if you work on github you can even edit documentation there directly
as it is textbased.

6.2 is not even out there and the API changed a very very bit, realurl

really depends want "using" means. if you don't wanna start to maintain

changes after the release of a new version or never.

scripts can do a lot. if a customer switches from a big page in !TYPO3
to TYPO3, any good agency won't let the customer create thousands of
pages again by hand :)

you should always consider looking in other solutions. this is the web,
thinks are changing there pretty fast.

shadows, opacity, flat design is cool ;)

why do you suggest a different CMS? First of all there is a current news
extension (Yes true, done by me but who cares) and many times a website
needs more than news.

> ezPublish is secure and very well maintained since years and major playors

if any other cms fits your needs better, may your customer change, the
other cms or whatever, use the best tool you wanna use.

> Another solution is Drupal.

and there are thousand other CMS, frameworks, non open source and so on.
There even other langauges like java which you can use.

But I doubt there are no drawbacks with the other cms. Drupal is known
to break stuff in major versions ;)

In the end you need to use 1st) the tool which fits and 2nd) the tool
you know. It won't be good to switch cms every 2 months ;) So if you
wanna stick to TYPO3 because you know it, trust the developers,
whatever, ... you can also invest in the ecosystem as you also with
those packages (I don't use them but if they are good for others, great
- thanks!)

> Open source Press meanwhile switched from TYPO3 to webEdition.

Companies switch all the times and sometimes the reason behind it is
just really stupid. E.g. the agency fucked it up and now the boss never
wants to hear the name of the CMS anymore and changes not only the cms
but everything, maybe also the complete IT department...

and Christian Kuhn invests *a lot* of time to make a better install tool
too! E.g. the environment check. Many things have been done in the last
versions (e.g. the whole bootstrap) to make those things possible and to
have *now* results!

that the web evolves, TYPO3 evolves and extensions change. It was not my

and I bet there are 100 agencies having the same issues. If every agency
invests a little time/money, a maintainer could be found. I doubt you
need more features but just a maintainer.

true but also core issues are sometimes long time not fixed but of

still be not the case for some extensions which are just included in the

it is really about people caring about parts of the code and not if it

I know. I used it a couple of times. It's certainly a positive

hard one.
Still: Having extensions not in core also means that e.g. features don't
need to wait for 6 months to be available, ... so there are also
advantages for not having a sysexts, never forget that.

But that's exactly my point. TYPO3 works great as long you can stick to
the core, but as soon as you need a third party extension it immediately
becomes tricky due to the poor quality of a lot of them. Therefore
important extensions like news, realurl, a mail system etc should be
part of the core.

This is fully understanded by everyone bug again: It needs a group of
maintainers or at least one of them.

And many extensions are created and supported by active contributes, so
there isn't too much difference anyway.

Regarding news: maybe you wanna look at
http://forge.typo3.org/projects/extension-news as it is not only
completly rewritten in extbase and fluid but also well tested using
unit-tests, having features which are not available in tt_news and IMO
all which are in tt_news included as well. It is very hard to do but
this extension works from 4.5 to 6.2 if PHP 5.3 is used.

Those extensions might be important to parts of your installations but

Furtheremore the code quality of those extensions is quite poor - maybe
this is also the reason why it is so hard that someone wants to take

2013-06-10 Thread Georg Ringer

Hi,

just again: nobody will remove pibase as this would bring really no
benefit (yeah except some lines more disk space).

There is no intention in the core to break things more than really
needed. Just 2 things:

- Every extension and every tool, no matter if important or not, needs
some love if the whole system around gets updated. This is not limited
to the Core alone. PHP gets developed further and deprecates stuff, same
for browsers, CSS and so on.

- You can't expect that everything works if you update some things in
the web to the latest version (e.g. by using autoupdate mechanisms of
your browser) and leave the rest as it is, based on old code.

Everyone fully undstands that it is a problem for those who use many
things which are currently more or less unmaintained. E.g. if your work
is based on tt_news, tt_products, cal & co you will need a little more
love x4 which can be quite a lot.

backend users shouldn't be aware of TS but integrators and developers
should. And I of course also don't understand every snippet in detail.

Back to the lightbox: It doesn't really matter if copying a TS snippet

another thing comes to my mind... since a while (years actually) typo3 was
missing the "paste" function in the page module. this is really annoying

had to switch to the list module. what was the developer who removed this
thinking? :)

yes this is missing, still in 6-0.

I try to come up with a solution for 6.1

Hi,

the reason is quite easy. Previously many people said: why do I need to
click those thousand times? I want to install this extension, there is
not a single reason why I could avoid those updates, of course I need those.

Re: [TYPO3-english] Send deprecation log information via email to extension author

2013-01-31 Thread Georg Ringer
Hi,

the big problem I see: The extension which uses deprecated stuff will
probably won't be maintained, so the author won't activate the feature
anyway.

If the extension is currently still maintained, an issue at forge would
be fine enough instead of 100 users sending the mail

Hi Martin,

great but I would live modernpackage out there, maybe just a link to a
working implementation but the sample TS without the long path to the
files and so on, would look then like that

page {
includeCSS {
file99 = fileadmin/your-fancybox.css
}
includeJSFooter
# fancybox library
fancybox = fileadmin/your-fancybox.js
}
}

# Change rendering of images to fit the needs of the lightbox requirements
tt_content.image.20.1.imageLinkWrap {
JSwindow = 0
directImageLink = 1
linkParams.ATagParams {
dataWrap = class= "lightbox" rel="fancybox{field:uid}"
}
}

I hope you don't mean quiet like "keep your mouth shout" because that
would just not be true.

Developers should always have a look at extdeveval as this is in general
a big help. Uploading extensions to typo3.org is something I guess not
even 1% need in their daily life.

ssh, phpmyadmin, install tool can import sql too

as those things are quite hard to code and quite some things can take
wrong, it shouldn't really be done within TYPO3. e.g. you really should
backup your DB before importing some sql files you don't really really
trust ;)

be aware that you got a security risk here as you don't escape the user
data and therefore you got a sql injection.
