There are alternatives which can hardly be reached by indexed_search. The reason is simply because the alternative is made for search and uses something really useful. Yes indexed_search could be improved a lot but in the end, it still won't be a competitor to solr & co. > It seems that nobody except me is early-adopting 6.2.0 in a > production-like environment not true. > Without early adopters we will get what we > deserve. However solr is an awesome tool (not only the extension itself but the product I am talking about) which can be used to fulfill things you will *never* get with indexed_search. Hi, Am 10.06.2013 18:00, schrieb Muriel le Pair: That might just to be true. In my experience in general bugs in the core are fixed much faster. My frustration with a lot of the major extensions is that currently if finally 1 bug is resolved and 10 other occur. What makes updates very time consuming and us reluctant to update. true but also core issues are sometimes long time not fixed but of course the need for a bugfix is most of the time bigger. this would still be not the case for some extensions which are just included in the core but nobody cares. it is really about people caring about parts of the code and not if it is on github, in the core or in an extension. everything else is just important for deployment where to get the files from ;) I know. I used it a couple of times. It's certainly a positive exception. Bug are fixed exceptionally fixed fast, so I'm not complaining. But at the same time it lacks some features needed so that you can use it in all most every situation where you need a news like system with a teaser and click to the full article. so open a feature request, maybe sponsoring helps if I am not that much interested in the feature for myself but certainly not required. Am 10.06.2013 15:49, schrieb Muriel le Pair: That same argument will apply to at least 50% of the core functionality. Yet I can't remember ever building a site without a news like system or the need for real url's. even though it is getting a bit OT but yes this decission is a really hard one. Still: Having extensions not in core also means that e.g. features don't need to wait for 6 months to be available, ... so there are also advantages for not having a sysexts, never forget that. But that's exactly my point. TYPO3 works great as long you can stick to the core, but as soon as you need a third party extension it immediately becomes tricky due to the poor quality of a lot of them. Therefore important extensions like news, realurl, a mail system etc should be part of the core. This is fully understanded by everyone bug again: It needs a group of maintainers or at least one of them. And many extensions are created and supported by active contributes, so there isn't too much difference anyway. Regarding news: maybe you wanna look at http://forge.typo3.org/projects/extension-news as it is not only completly rewritten in extbase and fluid but also well tested using unit-tests, having features which are not available in tt_news and IMO all which are in tt_news included as well. It is very hard to do but this extension works from 4.5 to 6.2 if PHP 5.3 is used. Furtheremore the code quality of those extensions is quite poor - maybe this is also the reason why it is so hard that someone wants to take over as maintainer. Re: [TYPO3-english] TYPO3 6.2 which Extensions will still work?
Hi, just again: nobody will remove pibase as this would bring really no benefit (yeah except some lines more disk space). There is no intention in the core to break things more than really needed. Just 2 things: - Every extension and every tool, no matter if important or not, needs some love if the whole system around gets updated. This is not limited to the Core alone. PHP gets developed further and deprecates stuff, same for browsers, CSS and so on. - You can't expect that everything works if you update some things in the web to the latest version (e.g. by using autoupdate mechanisms of your browser) and leave the rest as it is, based on old code. Everyone fully undstands that it is a problem for those who use many things which are currently more or less unmaintained. E.g. if your work is based on tt_news, tt_products, cal & co you will need a little more love x4 which can be quite a lot.
