Assuming you are using a windows PC, have the codes in a NOTEPAD
document & just cut/paste as required

2005-11-20 Thread Kevin King
Depends on the application. If you're entering it into your own
application, patch your account number validation routine such that
allows you to do whatever abbreviations you want: "A" could equal
"123456763245435425324324" and that would be easy enough to do and
would save you boatloads of time in testing.

Subject: [U2] 20 Digit Number

General Question. A client has just taken on a new major customer and
we have to keep track of their product codes. These codes are 20
numbers long with no real prefixing, suffixing or patterns.

Is there any way to abbreviate numbers. I know this is a weird
question but I know that I may be entering these codes manually during
the testing and/or installation phase of this project and 20 numbers
is a lot of typing.

I've run out of ideas that simplify as most tend to complicate
matters. The users will eventually be using bar code, scanning off of
printed documents. As I develop, I will not have that benefit.

I can calculator-enter numbers pretty effeciently given my accounting
background. But 20 digits is a lot.

I'm open to any ideas even if to know there are none.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [U2] UniObjects for Java - LANG environment

2005-11-20 Thread Bob Little
Y'know I usually try to make a boob out of myself in public *at
least* once a year and this was it.
I had neglected to add en_US.UTF-8 to sys/LANGGRP for Group 1
Funny how things start working when you get the config right.

Subject: [U2] UniObjects for Java - LANG environment
   Hello,
I have been messing about with UniObjects for java on UniData 7.1 PE.
I have a little test JSP page and I'm running it on Tomcat5.
When I load the page, I get an error message in the logs:
   asjava.uniobjects.UniSessionException: Error [39207] occurred on
   server. Possible client-side licensing failure.
On a command line java class I get the same error until I do "export
   LANG=C" then everything works fine.
I am not sure if I have a Tomcat issue, or a UniData config issue
here. I've set Tomcat's config to export the LANG=C environment
variable, but it has not worked.
I'd sure appreciate any light any of you can shed.
   Thanks,
   Bob Little

[U2] UniObjects (uniapi_slave / uniapi_server) process termination/expiration

2005-11-20 Thread Andy Pflueger
Hi all,

I've just been noticing on our system (Solaris 2.8 / Unidata 6.1.10)
that our apps that use Uniobjects are leaving processes in the process
table for open "udt" processes. The TTY for these are defined as
"udcs" and owned by our user we use when establishing the Uniobjects
connection. I guess my question is, could this be the cause of not
properly cleaning up (ie. disconnecting) calls from our web apps that
use this middleware which seems to be gaining popularity?

Any advice would be great appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy Pflueger
