Victor, do you have both sides of the association defined - both in
the dicts (attribute 7) and in the association phrase?

[U2] uniXML question on uonet7.1

2005-12-21 Thread Victor St Clair
Hello

I'm working on a project using C# with UO.net with UniData 7.1 on Win2003
Server. I'm trying to use the uniXML class to retrieve an XML document from a
set of associated fields in a single file. When I run the query I get a
result of

IBMU2.UODOTNET.UniXMLException
Schema: global element: 'WEB_CNTRYS-MV" declared more than once.

The file I'm running against has 8 fields defined in the association named
WEB_CNTRYS. I can use list on them from TCL and the data displays fine.
However, if I add TOXML to export the results to XML I get funny results, as
follows:

List FILENAME WITH @ID = "RECORDNAME", WEB_EMP_IDS WEB_EMP_CNTRYS
WEB_EMP_CNTRY_NAMES WEB_EMP_CNTRY_OPER_CULTURE CNTY_REQD_FLG ST_REQD_FLG
ZIP_FLG TOXML

The results look like this:

In the example, all seven of the fields are multi-valued.

Our ECLTYPE is normally P, but I've tried the above command with lower case
'list' to get type U as well. (I've tried it both ways, same results).

Can any one shed any light on what's going on or suggest things I can try or
look into? Has any one seen this happen?

Thanks

Victor St. Clair

I believe there are some restrictions in windows xp, to prevent it being a
low cost server. I think there is a limit of 6 incoming tcp/ip connections
to the box. It is a while back so I am vague on the details, but you should
check that you can get the required number of people to logon to the box at
a time.

Re: [U2] Using Win XP/Pro as a 'server' for Universe

2005-12-21 Thread Dave Taylor
Hi Joe,

We are just completing a conversion of a customer's legacy software from R91
to UV/NT.

We ran an eval. version of UV 10.x on an XP/Pro machine for conversion
purposes and, unfortunately, we are still on it. We're in the process of
purchasing a Win 2003 Server machine for their real UV server.

To answer your questions:

1.Yes, you can, and must, format the UV drive on XP/Pro in the NTFS
format.

2.Yes, you can use the old NT machine as a print server, *but*, you
must *also* install each of the printers connected to the NT computer on lpr
ports on the XP/Pro computer so that UV will recognize them as local Windows
printers on its own Windows computer.

3. We're not using UVODC, so I can't comment on that.

4.We all know that "for the short term" really means "as long as it
works for us".

In addition, this XP/Pro machine was, and continues to be, in use as a local
desktop and print server machine for both large and small print jobs.

Sending large print jobs thru is really kills the response time on UV.

They also have been accustomed to using it for email and web access, like
any desktop machine, and several web pages will also slow down UV
noticeably, if not kill it.

Finally, I'm not a Windows license expert, but our customer needs to have a
separate XP/Pro User for each UV user, and I believe that XP/Pro is a
single-user O.S., so I'm pushing (hammering?) to get them to buy a W2003
server machine just for UV, if just to be legal.

If you're not a Universe VAR, may I suggest that you contact Ray Methvin at
Monolith Corp? They are the Master Distributor for Universe and Unidata in
the US, for resellers who are not direct IBM VARs.

If you're working with a direct IBM VAR now, they should be able to answer
these questions for you.

We are a UV reseller and we work with Monolith.

Please let me know if we can be of further assistance

hth,

Dave

[U2] UO.Net UniDataSet question

2005-12-21 Thread George Smith
The following is a IBM code example for the UniDataSet:

UniSession m_us=UniObjects("xxx", "yyy", "localhost", "demo", "udcs");

UniFile m_fl=m_us.Openfile("Customer");

string[] sArray={"2", "3", "4"};

UniDataSet m_ds=m_fl.Read(sArray);

foreach(UniRecord item in M_ds)

{

  Console.WriteLine(item.ToString[]);

}

As you can see this code is on he client. My question is can and how do
you build a UniDataSet in UniBasic on the server. When you look in the
C# debugger there are more structures than you think, probably
UniDataSet properties like RecordCount.

I know someone will ask why do you want to build the UniDataSet on the
server, so in advance I just want to.

Thanks for any help.

[U2][UV] UO.NET connection

We have recently swapped out one of our Universe servers that we were accessing

Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks.

[U2] just because its nearly christmas

2005-12-21 Thread Bob Witney
The proliferation of modern programming languages (all of which seem to have
stolen countless features from one another) sometimes make it difficult to
remember what you're currently using. This guide is offered as a public
service to help programmers who find themselves in such dilemmas.

C: You shoot yourself in the foot.

C++: You accidentally create a dozen instances of yourself and shoot them all
in the foot. Providing emergency medical assistance is impossible since you
can't tell which are bitwise copies and which are just pointing at others and
saying, "That's me, over there."

FORTRAN: You shoot yourself in each toe iteratively, until you run out of toes,
then you read in the next foot and repeat. If you run out of bullets, you
continue anyway because you have no exception-handling ability.

MODULA-2: After realizing that you can't actually accomplish anything in this
language, you shoot yourself in the head.

COBOL: USEing a COLT 45 HAND-GUN, AIM gun at LEG.FOOT, THEN place
ARM.HAND.FINGER on HAND-GUN.TRIGGER and SQUEEZE. THEN return HANDGUN to
HOLSTER. CHECK whether shoelace needs to be retied.

LISP: You shoot yourself in the appendage which holds the gun with which you
shoot yourself in the appendage which holds the gun with which you shoot
yourself in the appendage which holds the gun with which you shoot yourself in
the appendage which holds the gun with which you shoot

BASIC: Shoot yourself in foot with water pistol. On big systems, continue
until entire lower body is waterlogged.

FORTH: Foot in yourself shoot.

APL: You shoot yourself in the foot, then spend all day figuring out how to do
it in fewer characters.

PASCAL: The compiler won't let you shoot yourself in the foot.

SNOBOL: If you succeed, shoot yourself in the left foot. If you fail, shoot
yourself in the right foot.

CONCURRENT EUCLID: You shoot yourself in somebody else's foot.

HYPERTALK: Put the first bullet of the gun into foot left of leg of you. Answer
the result.

MOTIF: You spend days writing a UIL description of your foot, the trajectory,
the bullet, and the intricate scrollwork on the ivory handles of the gun.
When you finally get around to pulling the trigger, the gun jams.

UNIX: % ls foot.c foot.h foot.o toe.c toe.o % rm *.o rm: .o: No such file or
directory % ls %

XBASE: Shooting yourself is no problem. If you want to shoot yourself in the
foot, you'll have to use Clipper.

PARADOX: Not only can you shoot yourself in the foot, your users can too.

REVELATION: You'll be able to shoot yourself in the foot just as soon as you
figure out what all these bullets are for.

VISUAL BASIC: You'll shoot yourself in the foot, but you'll have so much fun
doing it that you won't care.

2005-12-21 Thread Results

Marco,
You need to look at the result (in this case, 6.71509648127128E-02)
and see if you have an 'E', if so, you need to unconvert the scientific
notation before formatting. That will work in both systems.

   IF INDEX(RESULT,'E",1) THEN
GOSUB CONVERT.SCINOTE
END
PRINT FMT(RESULT,'R9')
END
 ...
SCINOTE:
SCIBASE = OCONV(RESULT,'G0E1')
SCIFACT = OCONV(RESULT,'G1E1')
IF SCIFACT < 1 THEN
 SCIBASE = SCIBASE / '1':STR('0',ABS(SCIFACT))
END ELSE
 SCIBASE = SCIBASE * '1':STR('0',ABS(SCIFACT))
END
RETURN

   Forgive me if this has errors, It's 3:42 AM here, but you get the idea.
