No, I meant configuring sudo to be able to invoke list_readu (which is

RE: [U2] RedHat, Universe, unlocking

2006-03-08 Thread Sirulnick, Steve
John,

You can. In order for it to work though, you have to invoke a universe shell
for it to work. For example, you could telnet or ssh into your account and
type sudo /path/to/bin/uv, enter your password... or however you set up sudo
and you're now logged in as root. That completely avoids having to create
more than one user with UID 0.

RE: [U2] RedHat, Universe, unlocking

2006-03-08 Thread Sirulnick, Steve
Sure, but be EXTREMELY careful as you could REALLY screw things up.

You must be signed on as root to do this and have a terminal session open.

1. Type in vipw. This utility will open up the password file without
inappropriately locking it. You should see lines that look like:

someuser:x:10236:501::/ibm/data/account:/bin/bash

2. Scroll to the user account. Select "i" (for insert) to begin
editing. Replace the line in the third position where each position is
terminated by a ":" with a "0" In this case, the third position is "10236".
3. After you have completed this, hit and enter ":","w","q".
This should write the file and quit the first part of the program. NOTE:
when you type ":","w","q" you will see those characters at the bottom of
your screen only. Not within the body of the file you're trying to edit!!!
4. You should then be prompted to edit the shadow file. Would you like
to edit /etc/shadow now [y/n]? Answer "y" This will take you to the shadow
file.
5. It's not necessary to edit anything here, so just enter ":wq". This
should take you out of the program.
6. BIG FAT NOTE: If at any time you think you've errored editing, type
,"q","!" This will escape the file without saving.
7. If you run into any problems, type man vipw from the terminal.

If you're unsure about this, don't attempt it on your production box. Try it
on a test system.

Re: [U2] To DIM a passed Matrix or not ?

2006-03-08 Thread Ray Wurlod
It IS necessary to DIM it in the called routine, not to establish its size
(extent) but to establish the number of dimensions (1 or 2). In your example,
DIM matrix(1) would have been sufficient. But DIM matrix(50,2) would cause a
run-time error.

Okay, if you've saved the records first, why not delete the file and
create a new one to the parameters you want. It'll be much faster.

Just a thought.

[U2] [UV] Resize error

2006-03-08 Thread Barry Brevik
UV version 9.6.1.3 on Windows 2000.

When I use RESIZE to resize a file, I frequently get this error:

RESIZE: Error on POREQ. File not resized.

I generally CLEAR.FILE the file first, having saved off the records
elsewhere, but I get the error whether I CLEAR.FILE or not. Incidentally, I
NEVER saw this error when the system was running on Solaris.

I have determined that this is NOT a permissions issue. Then I thought, well
maybe someone has the file open, but even after hours with nobody on I get
the same error.

If I reboot the machine, I can resize any file until a day or so goes by and
the error starts cropping up again.

One further factoid- if I DELETE.FILE the file, it will not do it (error)
but merrily trashes the DATA portion of the file. Then, I can not
CREATE.FILE the file either.

This has progressed to the extreme annoyance phase. Anyone know what's going
on here?

Bob,

This is a known issue with UniVerse. To correct it, do the following:

1) CD to the uvhome/bin directory (check /.uvhome for uvhome path)
2) Backup original file: 'mv usrs usrs.orig'
3) Load in AIX 5.x version of the file: 'cp usrs.AIX5 usrs'
4) Log into UniVerse
5) Re-execute the LISTU command.

RE: [U2] UniObjects Select Error ( HELP!!! - Different error message - 81002 )

2006-03-08 Thread Dave Tabor
Thanks to all who replied.

I found my error. There was a program in Unidata that I had modified the day
before, that was throwing an error when run from this VB.NET program. This was
run as a Session.Command.Exec() through UniObjects. When it threw the error,
it killed the udt session for this UniObjects 'phantom' user. (I found this by
trying to run that program manually.)

Oddly enough, when that happened, UniObjects still returned an .error code of
0, meaning no error. This made it appear that my program was doing everything
correctly up to the select statement, and I had ignored it as being a possible
issue. I guess sometimes ignorance ISN'T bliss, right?

Thanks, again for your time and your support in this issue. It's all resolved
now!!!

Hi,

Unfortunately, although it was set to en_US, instead of C, it didn't appear to
have helped. I did realize that my other application, which works with
virtually the same routines, does work. This would seem to indicate that it's
not the LANG setting on my machine, as it's also en_US for that user.

I did try bypassing the select statement, and going right straight for the
statement:
SelectListObj.GetList("FSD")
to see what happened. This gives me an error 81002, which says
"UVE_RPC_NO_CONNECTION" Description reads "The connection is broken"... a lot
of help, huh?

My session is still active at this point, and I can see the user still logged
in.

Q1) Any thoughts, anyone???

Q2) How is the RPC connection different from the session?

Thanks,

Dave,

I hit this with a Linux server last year and I'm hoping it's the same
problem. Pete @ Epicor UK did some research and advised that Error 39207
refers to an incorrect LANG setting on a Unix server. LANG should be set to
'C' , if it isn't you'll hit this.

My problem was that the base system LANG setting was not C, but all my
logins used a .profile script to set it to 'C' so ECL worked fine.

Unfortunately, UniObjects doesn't execute .profiles, LOGIN paras or anything
so it reverts to the base LANG (so in order for my theory to hold in your
case, somebody must have changed something in AIX)

Subject: [U2] UniObjects Select Error

Hi,

I've got an application that is written in VB.NET which uses UniObjects to
connect to Unidata 6.0 on an AIX server.

It's been working fine for months, and today seems to have 'broken'. I've
stepped through the lines in VB.NET, and come up with what I think might be
the offending error message.

The error is error code 39207, which I have no reference as to it's meaning.

I'm getting the error right after executing this two line code:

Session.command.text = "SSELECT FSD BY DEL_DATE BY SORT_SEQ BY.DSND @ID WITH
SELECT_DATE GE """ & SelectDateStr & """ AND WITH @ID # ""moved"" AND WITH
NO PRM_DATE = ""PDt"" AND WITH NO CUST_NAME = "

Session.command.exec()

Notes:
1) My session is open, and has no error status.
2) The actual Select Statement created here is: SSELECT FSD BY DEL_DATE BY
SORT_SEQ BY.DSND @ID WITH SELECT_DATE GE "03/1/06" AND WITH DISPLAYED # "Y"
AND WITH @ID # "moved" AND WITH NO PRM_DATE = "PDt" AND WITH NO CUST_NAME =
""
3) The Session.command.text statement works correctly, as I can cut/paste it
from the watch window to an ECL prompt and it works fine.

I'm the only IT person working with this server and VB.NET code, and as I
mentioned, I haven't changed anything in a months, so I'm not sure where to
start.

Any guess what the error code means, and/or what I could try to do to
resolve this issue?

Thanks,
Dave

Peter,

I have had to set up an administrator accounts and I'm not necessarily happy
with this solution. There may be better ways to go out there. I've had to
create a user with UID 0 privileges. Universe requires super-user function
to be able to use the admin tools (SYSADM.MENU) and this was the only
solution.

HTH,

Steve

Hi all,

Running Universe on Redhat, how does one setup a user to be able to
perform UNLOCK at TCL?

Thanks

RE: [U2] Who is activly selling Universe, Unidata and other mv dbs?

> Thanks David. Do you have any statistics on the "doing well" and

This is from presentations from IBM, I think the figures were around 11-12%
growth. We are also doing well selling in non traditional database
applications so we are developing new markets

[U2] AIX 5.3 and Universe 10.1.14

2006-03-08 Thread Bob Witney
Hi all;

We have just "completed" the upgrade of 2 of our servers to the above releases

We are having problems with 10.1.14

Such annoying little things as this

:! users
bob
:users
There are currently 0 users logged on the system.
:LISTU
These are the users presently sharing the system.

bob pts/0 08 Mar 07:41 (172.16.10.2)

There are currently 0 users logged on the system.

However, PORT.STATUS operates correctly:

:PORT.STATUS

There are currently 1 uniVerse sessions; 1 interactive, 0
phantom

Pid.. User name. Who. Port name. Last command
processed...
..
  282824 root 11 /dev/pts/0 PORT.STATUS

Has anyone else had problems with this upgrade and if so did you get fixes from
IBM ? and more importantly did you come across any other little anomolies from
10.1.7

Thanks
