[U2] Status of the U2-Community List

2007-09-15 Thread Brian Leach
Fellow Members

Following lengthy deliberations at our last meeting prompted by the requests
from some list members, the U2UG board unanimously supported the following
position:

1. The U2UG is responsible for running the lists on behalf of the list
membership. As such, the U2UG has the mandate to amend the procedures and
policies of the list.

2. The U2UG will consider such changes in policy when these changes can be
clearly demonstrated to represent the majority view of the list membership.

3. At present, there is no evidence that the request to close u2-community
has the support of the majority of the list community.

4. If the u2-community list is to continue, it should not merely be a
'dumping ground' for terminated threads, but a vibrant opportunity for wide
ranging discussion of all kinds.

5. The U2UG will use such influence as it posesses to encourage better use
of u2-community, for example to further academic discussions.

6. The U2UG are committed to enhancing opportunities for the U2 membership
to express opinions and to communicate all aspects of the model.

The board also noted that:

1. The opinions expressed on this matter ARE important and are taken
seriously.

2. The board would like to express its continued thanks to the moderators
and subscribers of the list.

3. For those who do not wish to receive postings from e.g. u2-community by
email but may wish to follow specific threads, the board are seeking to
improve the current access offered through web-based interfaces to the lists
such as GMane and Nabble.

4. The board hopes that the same level of passion, fervour and commitment
expressed in these threads can be harnessed for contributions to the wiki,
forums, knowledge base and other community.

Thank you

Brian Leach

Or, given the nature of wikis, you may wish to add depth of content
yourself. There's a lot that's cursory.

I wish someone more experienced with wikis would go to that article edit
or add hyperlinks and better indexing.
