Re: [U2] RE: Ssh connections to Universe DB?
Bob Rasmussen wrote: I'm exploring a possibility, and would like feedback. The problem: administrators want the security that SSH offers, but Universe (and some others) running on Windows offers only telnet access. Possible solution: One possible solution would be to setup a linux PC local to the Universe host running a sshd daemon, and configure your windows ssh client to connect to the linux PC with automatic port forwarding, that would open a standard telnet session thru to the Universe host. This telnet session is then passed automatically back thru the ssh connection to the ssh client. This does require a ssh client that understands port forwarding. I used to setup putty on the windows client to open the ssh tunnel for the windows terminal emulator. [U2] Merge/Purge methods...
When we de-dupe a file, what we do is create a key of LastName*FirstName[1,3]*zipcode or Country (If a lot of the firstnames are similar, we will extend the [1,3] to be the entire first name (which usually includes a Middle initial also). Anyway...We are purchasing a canned software package which does some fuzzy logic to du-dupe (This was the easiest, and fastest method to improve our matching) But just curious.I wanted to try to do a % matched on all fields (name, address, city, state, zip , cntry) eliminating St, Ave, Suite, etc, so only the unique pieces of the data remain. Only problem is I couldn't figure a way to make a key that I could compare to, in order to see if this name exists, or what percentage. Anyway, how are others processing de-dupes? Re: [U2] Merge/Purge methods...
Not sure what software package you're referring to here. QualityStage from IBM is ideal - you get total control over the fuzzy logic, the ability to standardize forms (such as AV, AVE, AVENUE) and, of course, the ability to control the probability levels at which the potential duplicates are identified (both likelihood of a true match and likelihood that match occured by random chance). You can then (if you wish), as part of the de-duplication exercise, assemble the best of breed data from the group of candidate duplicates rather than just relying on one record's contents. It's expensive software but it's good. --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/

RE: [U2] Updating UV/UD PE
I've posted a summary of my recent experience with this so far. I'm running in a virtual machine and can test this process many times before committing the disk updates. So if anyone is curious about something or has a suggestion, I'll be happy to try it before I finalize my upgrade.
