Re: [U2] Debugging UNIX Segmentation Violations and Core Dumps (UV)

2014-02-20 Thread Arie van Dam
No. We have a contract with a VAR and are a software seller but only get rather
limited access to tech connect . Not even to patches or releasenotes to
download.
That said, we do receive those at our request, via our VAR after error reports.
Since UV is stable, we usually stick with a release for a while.

You only allow that information out to people under maintenance contracts?
Anyone can sign up at TechConnect. That isn't good enough?

 Original Message

Robert, If you have a current maintenance contract with Rocket U2 you will
be able to access this and many more resources from the Rocket Customer
Portal.

 I received a copy of a CD, that has a lot of good information on it.

 It is labeled U2 Tech Support Survival Kit. It has some good documents

 Debugging UNIX Segmentation Violations and Core Dumps (UV)

 Anyone have a link to the latest equivalent of this CD on the Rocket
 Website?

 When I searched there was no mention on the Rocket website about SURVIVAL
 KIT.

[U2] Encryption of data in place

2014-02-20 Thread Jeffrey Butera
So with the Univ of Maryland's data breach, everyone is starting to ask
questions (again).

Can someone remind me which Unidata manual covers encryption of data in
place?

Unfortunately Datatel/Ellucian does not support this, but it wouldn't be
the first feature of Unidata we've used without their support...

Hi Jeff,

You will find information in the Security Features book for UniData. As
Automatic Data Encryption (ADE) can have a complex setup and big impacts if
you don't do it right (our team has had to help enough people with 'lost'
encryption keys already, thanks ;)) that I highly recommend talking to our
Professional Services team if you are looking to implement it. Note: I'm not
one to 'highly' recommend that you need services too often.

It is on the Tech Connect website. You might need a u2tc login to get to
the product matrix.
https://u2tc.rocketsoftware.com/matrix.asp

Then enter Product desired, and OS:

Re: [U2] Encryption of data in place

2014-02-20 Thread Bob Witney
We use this code to encrypt:

SUBROUTINE EWENCRYPT(DATASTRING,OPSTRING,RETURN.CODE)

  RESULT=
  ALGORITHM=rc2-cbc; * 128 bit rc2 algorithm
in CBC mode
  MYKEY=23232323  ; * HEX - Actual Key
  IV=   12121212 ; * HEX - Initialization Vector
  DATALOC=1 ; * Data in String
  KEYLOC=1; * Key in String
  ACTION=2 ; * Base64 encode after
encryption
  KEYACTION=1   ; * KEY_ACTUAL_OPENSSL
  SALT='' ; * SALT not used
  RESULTLOC=1   ; * Result in String RESULT
  OPSTRING = ''

RETURN.CODE=ENCRYPT(ALGORITHM,ACTION,DATASTRING,DATALOC,MYKEY,KEYLOC,KEYACTION,SALT,IV,OPSTRING,RESULTLOC)

  RETURN

   END

And this this to decrypt:

  SUBROUTINE EWDECRYPT(DATASTRING,OPSTRING,RETURNCODE)

  RESULT=
  ALGORITHM=rc2-cbc; * 128 bit rc2 algorithm
in CBC mode
  MYKEY=23232323  ; * HEX - Actual Key
  IV=   12121212 ; * HEX - Initialization Vector
DATALOC=1   ; * Data in String
  KEYLOC=1; * Key in String
  KEYACTION=1   ; * KEY_ACTUAL_OPENSSL
  SALT='' ; * SALT not used
  RESULTLOC=1   ; * Result in String RESULT
  ACTION=4; * Base64 decode
before encryption
  OPSTRING = ''

RETURN.CODE=ENCRYPT(ALGORITHM,ACTION,DATASTRING,DATALOC,MYKEY,KEYLOC,KEYACTION,SALT,IV,OPSTRING,RESULTLOC)
  FinalTime=SYSTEM(9) ; * Time program ran in milliseconds

  RETURN

   END

You'll need to give it your own MYKEY and IV because I have obviously not put
the ones we use in the examples above :-)

If you have the ENCRYPT/DECRYPT routines in Unidata that works just fine (we
use Universe)

Bob
