Unbelievable.

I don't agree that readability is improved when you use mixed case in your
"Case" (or "case") statement...

The initial example was close to a good start... something like...

If XX then gosub YY else gosub ZZ

Replaced by

Begin case
   Case XX ; gosub YY
   Case 1 ; gosub ZZ
End case

Except that now... note that readability is enhanced by [1] indenting... so
as to align text and [2] using mixed-case and camelCase typography.

The product provided by Ashwood handles this nicely. On an AIX system, it
pauses the database, performs a JFS2 snapshot (in seconds), releases the
database, then the customizable backup script (we use tar and gzip) backs up
the snapshot.

While UV is running and being used?

tar is all very well, but if the database is being used 24/7 it could
easily lead to a corrupt backup.

Couldn't you just use HUSH before doing the select to suppress the
output?

ok...(UV 10 )

I'm doing the following:

SELECT FILE1 SAVING VARB1 (PICK format SELECT - to allow multivalued
SAVING)
SELECT FILE2
SAVE-LIST XX

Problem is when there are VARB1 items in FILE1 that are not valid ID's
in
FILE2
the SELECT FILE2 displays all the ID's that are not valid ID's.

If I'm typing the commands, no problem...just hit 'n', however, if I put
them
in a VOC, and execute the VOC from a program, the operator has to hit
'n'.

What would be nice would be if there was a NOPAGE, or a HUSH option to
SELECT.

My workaround is:

SELECT FILE1 SAVING VARIB1 TO 1
SELECT FILE2 TO 2
MERGE.LIST 1 INTERSECT 2
SAVE-LIST XX

RE: [U2] How to use LOCATE in an I Descriptor

2007-08-12 Thread Danny Ruckel
You'll end up with the first occurrence if you use "1" for the specified
occurrence. "INDEX", will, however, only return the position of a/the
single occurrence of a substring the user specifies.

Subject: RE: [U2] How to use LOCATE in an I Descriptor

Since I like to avoid subroutines when I can, this is how I would do it
(using Perry's sample data slightly modified):

EVENTCODE
P]B]F]B]R

And

EVENTSTATUS
A-T]B-T]FP-T]K-P]A-P

TRIM(IFS(EQS(EVENTCODE,REUSE('B')),EVENTSTATUS,REUSE('')),@VM)

Which returns all values for EVENTCODE 'B', else empty. My concern with
using INDEX is that you usually end up with only the first occurence in
the results.
