Is this unidata - it will be to do with ECLTYPE, BASICTYPE - you may want to use UDTEXECUTE. I don't remember the details, but iirc PERFORM and EXECUTE aren't quite the same (PERFORM comes from INFORMATION and could well imply PI behaviour regardless of your defaults). I found that the error message appeared only if list # 9 was empty. Do you get the same problem with EXECUTE? BTW: Do you have $OPTION PERF.EQ.EXEC set in your code?
