RE: [U2] Copying UV data

2008-10-04 Thread John Jenkins
If UniVerse is running then the options are:

1, Stop UniVerse, copy, start UniVerse

2. SUSPEND.FILES ON; sync (recommend if Unix); copy; SUSPEND.FILES OFF

3. If you use a SAN or can split mirrors, then take a SAN snap or split a
mirror, and copy that elsewhere (the suspend is minimal)

4. Take a chance and wing it - your chance of being successful or ending up
with dross depends on whether there is any activity. You can be:
4.1 Lucky (works OK data intact and up to date)
4.2 Unlucky (failed, file damaged - (Yes - this is some form of GOOD news
because you know it's broken))
4.3 Very Unlucky (seemed to have worked, no file damage but referential
integrity lost) and you miss it

Re: UV 10.1 on Linux

Is there any tricks to picking up a data account from one system and
porting it over to another? Do we have to stop UV before the move, or can
it be paused like with Unidata?

RE: [U2] Copying UV data

2008-10-03 Thread Brutzman, Bill
With HP-Ux it is no problem at all. I do not stop or pause UV. I just
copy the data files. I have been doing this once-a-day for the last two
years.

To be prudent, with a recent backup available, after hours. Just copy
from A to B and then do a spot-check test it in both A and B. Or just
shoot from the hip.
