[UAI] Call for papers: ECML-PKDD 2012
ECML-PKDD 2012 - The European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases September 24-28, 2012 Bristol, UK http://www.ecmlpkdd2012.net/http://www.ecmlpkdd2011.org/ * Key Dates - Abstract submission deadline: Thu 19 April 2012 - Paper submission deadline: Mon 23 April 2012 - Early author notification: Mon 28 May 2012 - Regular author notification: Fri 15 June 2012 - Camera-ready submission: Fri 29 June 2012 * Call For Papers The European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECML-PKDD) provides an international forum for the discussion of the latest high-quality research results in all areas related to machine learning and knowledge discovery in databases and other innovative application domains. Submissions are invited on all aspects of machine learning, knowledge discovery and data mining, including real-world applications. The overriding criteria for acceptance will be a paper’s: - potential to inspirethe research community by introducing new and relevant problems, concepts, solution strategies, and ideas; - contribution to solving a problem widely recognized as both challenging and important; - capability to address a novel area of impactof machine learning and data mining. Other criteria are scientific rigour and correctness, challenges overcome, quality and reproducibility of the experiments, and presentation. * Proceedings and Special Journal Issues The conference proceedings will be published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence series (LNAI). Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit a significantly extended version of their paper to two post-conference special issues of the journals Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery http://www.springer.com/computer/database+management+%26+information+retrieval/journal/10618 and Machine Learning http://www.springer.com/computer/ai/journal/10994. * Submissions All aspects of the submission and notification process will be handled online via the CMT conference management toolkit at https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/ECMLPKDD2012/. The papers must be written in English and formatted according to the Springer LNAI guidelines. Authors instructions and style files can be downloaded at: http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html The maximum length of papers is 16 pages in this format. Overlength papers will be rejected without review. Papers submitted should report original work; ECML-PKDD 2012 will not accept any paper which, at the time of submission, is under review or has already been accepted for publication in a journal or another conference. Authors are also expected not to submit their papers elsewhere during the review period. To minimize the impact of this constraint, a significant proportion of rejected papers will be notified at the early notification date. * Reviewing process Papers submitted to ECML-PKDD 2012 will normally be reviewed by three referees. The review process is single-blind (reviewer identities unknown to authors) and there will be no opportunity for author rebuttal. This decision was made to minimize reviewer workload and to concentrate it in time, which may ultimately result in better quality reviews and decisions. If necessary, a discussion will take place among the reviewers of a paper until a decision is reached. * Contact You can contact the Program Committee Chairs at ecmlpkdd2012pccha...@cs.bris.ac.uk mailto:ecmlpkdd2012pccha...@cs.bris.ac.uk. The Discovery Challenge provides a venue for the collaborative exploration and evaluation of novel and interesting tasks in the areas of Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery. The outcome of the Discovery Challenge will be presented in a dedicated workshop on the first or the last day of the conference, where the winning and other selected participations will be presented. * Proposal Guidelines Submitted proposals should be self-contained and should include at least the following information: - Title and abstract of the proposed challenge. - Contact information of organizer(s). - General description of the proposed challenge. - Description of the dataset used in the proposed challenge. - Description of at least two tasks in which the Discovery Challenge participants will compete. - Description of the evaluation procedure and metrics. - Short biography of organizers, mentioning relevant experience. The submitted proposals should also consider the following points: - The dataset should be made publicly available after the end of the challenge to facilitate future use and repeatability of experiments. - The dataset should be sufficiently large. - The tasks should address novel and interesting research problems, which do not require significant domain-specific knowledge from participants. - The evaluation procedure should be described clearly. We encourage organizers to seek awards and prizes for the winning participants in order to attract participation. The acceptance of a proposed Discovery Challenge, however, does not depend on the provision of an award or prize. * Important Dates Mar 21, 2011: Discovery Challenge proposal deadline. Mar 28, 2011: Notification of acceptance. Apr 11, 2011: Discovery Challenge announcement: Description of tasks, dataset and metrics become available. [UAI] Joint call for tutorials and workshops at ECML PKDD 2011
ECML PKDD 2011 http://www.ecmlpkdd2011.org/ Joint call for tutorials and workshops The ECML PKDD 2011 Organizing Committee invites proposals for tutorials and workshops to be held on the first and last days of the conference, which will take place in Athens, Greece from September 5th to 9th, 2011. We invite proposals for half-day tutorials and half-day or full-day workshops. Combination of workshops and tutorials are also welcome. The scope of the proposal should be consistent with the conference themes as described in the ECML PKDD 2011 Call for Papers. Workshops provide an opportunity to discuss current topics in machine learning and/or data mining in a small and interactive atmosphere. Workshops can concentrate in-depth on research topics, but can also be devoted to application issues, or to questions concerning the economic and social aspects of machine learning and data mining. Multidisciplinary workshops that bring together researchers and practitioners from different communities are welcome. Workshops are expected to cover a full day (3.5h + 3.5h, incl. two breaks of 30 minutes), except for joint workshops/tutorials, in which case a half day tutorial (3.5h incl. one 30 minute break) followed by a half day workshop (3.5h incl. one 30 minute break) is possible. The general idea is that for some events, it may be preferable to have a general introduction to a topic, presented by experienced presenters, before more technical or novel work is presented. Tutorials are intended to provide independent instruction on core techniques and areas of knowledge that enjoy broad interest within the machine learning and the data mining community. We are interested in tutorials on established or emerging research topics within the field itself, but we also welcome tutorials from related research fields or application areas. The ideal tutorial should attract a wide audience. It should be broad enough to provide a gentle introduction to the chosen research area, but it should also cover the most important contributions in depth. Each tutorial should be well-focused so that its content can be covered in a half day slot (3.5h incl. a 30 minute break). Proposals that exclusively focus on the presenter's own work or commercial presentations are not eligible. ** Important dates ** --- The following deadlines are important for the workshop/tutorial organizers: - Workshop/tutorial proposal deadline: March 1, 2011 - Workshop/tutorial acceptance notification: March 17, 2011 - Workshop websites and call for papers online: April 1, 2011 - Workshop/tutorial proceedings (camera-ready): July 28, 2011 Workshops are free to determine their own schedules, but we advise the following deadlines: - Workshop paper submission deadline: June 7, 2011 - Workshop paper acceptance notification: July 1, 2011 - Workshop paper camera-ready deadline: July 21, 2011 ** Contact ** --- In case you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact us.
