[Ubnt_users] SNMP OID broken for AP MAC?

2017-08-02 Thread Josh Luthman
Normally this OID gives you the MAC for the AP it (the SM) is connected
to. For some reason they're coming back with a response of "hrQ"-j"

.1.3.6.1.4.1.41112.1.4.5.1.4.1

Does anyone know what the deal is here? I really don't want to waste my
time with the Ubnt support team for a question like this as I have little
faith in anything other than reboot/update/new POE responses. It's
happening on some radios but not others in various 5.6.x versions.

Re: [Ubnt_users] SNMP OID broken for AP MAC?

2017-08-02 Thread Scot Loach
Hi Josh,

That string hrQ is the ascii encoding of the Ubiquiti OUI 68-72-51. Your
SNMP client is decoding it as a String instead of a Hex-String, probably
based on the first octet being a valid printable character. It is
returning a valid MAC address if you decode it as a Hex-String.

In the rare event that has needed to happen. We just but the customers in
different public subnets. so yes, they have to go to the core and back, it
works. but it's mostly a non-issue.

My assumption is that with pppoe and host routing it wouldn't be an
issue, but in a situation where one site would ARP for the other
site, it wouldn't work out.

right. and 99.999% of internet users don't need to connect directly do each
other. It's just not that big of a deal. Plus, I don't ever want customers
to be able to pass traffic between each other at a point that I can't
capture it. (read: CALEA).
In our network, we have 11 public subnets (a combination of /24's and
/22's), customers obtain a public IP from their assigned subnet and all
traffic is forced to the core and out to the world.

right, but having multiple subnets, it's an easy fix to reassign a customer
in to a subnet and get them going if it become an issue.

using VPLS we share every setnet to every tower, CPE's join those tunnels
by being in the correctly assigned VLAN.
