Re: [Ubnt_users] No signal lights on AF11X are lit but the link is up with great signal?

2018-05-31 Thread David Jones
Yup... The lights are calculated with antenna size and distance. meaning
they work in the feild and not on a bench 50' appart.

being that close the ideal signal would be way too hot for them to operate
at all. The closer you are to the ideal is when the lights start working.

Re: [Ubnt_users] UBNET 900Mhz

2018-05-30 Thread David Jones
Well... really depends on what you want. You want cheap do ubnt 900. you
want quality and speed go for 450i.

450i has the ability to sync. you won't self interfere. This is huge if you
plan on having more than one AP in a 15 mile radius.

Right now I have a 450i that replaced a ubnt 900. the ubnt unit was puking
after having only 20 clients on it. first i tried adding another ubnt 900
and setting both to 10mhz... HA bad idea. Decided to go for the 450i and am
surprised at how much better it is.

Top speed on the ubnt was just as Clay said 4-10mbps... sometimes peaks at
14mbps.

the 450i clients are similar in cost as the rocket 900's with Yaggis. But
man do they perform better. speed test on a client with -77 RSSI is
26mbps/6mbps
-70 RSSI is 49mbps/14mbps
-64 RSSI is 78mbps/22mbps

This is set with a 80/20 download to upload split. you can change it by a
single percent from 15-85
It really is quite amazing and worth the money.

Re: [Ubnt_users] aircontrol won't find 6.0.4 devices

It's an ePMP 1000 2ghz with sync connected to a ubnt 2ghz sector. We
elevated the people connect to the old rocket and swapped the Rocket with
the ePMP. Signals were about the same maybe a bit less but performance was
greatly increased.

That was a 5ghz. I have elevated some NS2's. Here is a NS2 with a reflector
dish at 14.8 miles getting about 62mbps down. I am really impressed with
what I can now get from the 2ghz.

Re: [Ubnt_users] aircontrol won't find 6.0.4 devices

2017-11-17 Thread David Jones
We tried an AC with MM sync And the performance is worse than just mixed
mode. It may have to do with the clients that have poor signal. With an
elevated XM I can pull 70mbps at a -73 signal with 60 other people
connected to the AP on a 40mhz channel. with a - 64 signal I can pull
94mbps maxing out the 100mbps port. an XW on the same sector can pull about
127mbps tcp throughput.
No matter what I tried with UBNT I could not get my legacy devices to pull
more than 40mbps TCP on a sector with more than 35 devices connected. sure
its udp test showed 85mbps+ but the TCP was barely half that. With the
cambium tests the TCP is usually within 5% of it.

We have also had problems with random UDP packets going missing and it
causes problems with VOIP and gamers. its not the connection quality
because we can use a VPN and magically the udp didn't disappear. adding the
latency and overhead improved the VOIP and UDP based games.

Going Forward we may have places that pure AC may work well but for any of
the old M equipment nothing beats an ePMP2000 with elevated firmware.

Re: [Ubnt_users] WISPAPALOOZA2017 - LTU

2017-10-17 Thread David Jones
I am not to keen on his opinion that MU-MIMO is not feasible in 5ghz. I
have a 14x14 cambium 450m up and working right now that is talking to 5,6,
and some times 7 clients at once and pushing over 240mbps in a 20mhz
channel. And it is definitely not the size of my car.

Other then that looks cool.
later if they really do have 2 RF chips in the future would it be possible
to do 2x100mhz channels for the areas that have the open spectrum?

I found with the limited GPS sync I did that the ping times on both the
cambium and AC were similar and increase with the number of clients. Ubnt
will not give you a latency advantage in GPS sync mode.

Re: [Ubnt_users] Air fiber 24 real world experiences feedback please

I have found that the higher the altitude the farther it can go. where you
are at you will not get the 4x modulation at that range. light rain will
take it down... however snow does not... Icing does.

Re: [Ubnt_users] AF11x Question.

2016-09-15 Thread David Jones
The AF24 does 100mhz channels... Why would Ubiquiti choose to only support
56mhz with the AF11x? Our industry is demanding more and more bandwidth to
the customer... If I can get an 80mhz channel there is no way that I would
only use 56mhz of it.

I would spend more money on something capable of doing the full 80mhz with
the 1024QAM

At 56mhz and 1024QAM the AF11x should do right at 700mbps... its missing
300mbps. if they did 80mhz channels then it would actually do right around
1gbps.

Why not actually support 80mhz channels?

Re: [Ubnt_users] Rocket AC capacity for IP Camera application.

2016-08-04 Thread David Jones
... I do not understand why you would need to collocate... one AP would be
just fine. If you are needing to make relays like back to back to get
around corners yes I would go with the Prism's. None of UBNT's AC stuff
sync so they will always fight each other... they may have sync on the
prism's "SOON" but I wouldn't hold my breath.

For that short of range I would recommend a single AP that can see all of
them... even if you need to use an omni... though I rarely recommend them :P

10mhz ~ 45mbps TCP -- 60ish UDP
20Mhz ~ 90mbps TCP -- 120ish UDP
30mhz ~ 145mbps TCP -- 200ish UDP
40mhz ~ 190mbps TCP -- 300ish UDP

That is if the stations are in router mode... the AC tops out at about
200mbps in router mode even with 80mhz channels in PTP mode. in bridge it
will max out at 420mbps ish

Only 10 clients on a PTMP all under 1500' will be great signals... might
need to turn some down but all should be max modulation.

2016-07-19 Thread David Jones
what version of FW are you running?

I know that some FW had the spikes and it was interference from the client
or AP. hence why it goes to about the same level as the signal.
