Re: [Ubnt_users] 60 Gigs ???

2017-12-05 Thread Jeremy Austin
FWIW, we had all kinds of issues in the cold with the first generation.
Second generation 1 gig seems to be handling this winter much better; I
have some 2.5 but ran out of time to deploy it before winter hit, so no
experience there.

Overall I will continue deploying Ignitenet.

Re: [Ubnt_users] New RP-5AC-Gen2 with a AM5G20-90 sector antenna

2017-06-29 Thread Jeremy Austin
How long is a piece of string?

This wold be hard to say without more info… Missing parameters, among
others:

Output power (related to center frequency)
Bandwidth in megahertz (e.g., 10, 20, 40)
Distance to client(s), client antenna gain, client output power
Noise floor
Number of expected clients

Care to share any other details about how you wish to deploy, and whether
you are comparing it to something you're already using?

If you're wanting something quick-and-dirty, Ubiquiti has a calculator at
airlink.ubnt.com — but it does require some 'interpretation'. For instance,
it does not calculate a fade margin — you have to do that yourself.

I can understand this perspective. I can hardly abide putting in anything
with less than AirFiber bit/Hz efficiency these days…

*But* sometimes you need to occupy spectrum so you can grow into it.
Networks have to be initially built larger than current need, as we don't
have the ability to organically grow with no constraints, using spectrum at
100% efficiency all of the time. That would be awesome if so!

I recommend using your favorite visual diff program as well, between the
old and new configs. It can help when you're assembling your new config /

Here's an anecdote, not a statistic; I had an AF5X that I had to RMA due to
a chain imbalance that remained after swapping pigtails etc. So it is
possible to lose a chain internally.
