I found a bug in intrepid
Hi, I downloaded the latest live CD today and at the boot prompt pressed enter once, f5, 3 and enter twice. Once the system booted I tried to run Orca. All it said was starting Orca preferences and never went any farther. However, when I pressed control alt backspace it started talking. So I ran the live CD normally and enabled accessibility after it was loaded. This time I was able to go through the steps with Orca, but after logging out and in again, Orca wanted to go through the steps of enabling accessibility again. So there must be something wrong with the accessibility settings. a question about firefox
Hi, maybe I have been using the wrong key in firefox for this. When on a page I can usually use backspace or alt left arrow to go back to the previous page. But today I have been on some sights where this didn't work. Is there another key you are suppose to use to get to the previous web page? good news about wireless connections
Hi, I was in the top panel today and found one of the icons took me into the wireless CONFIG. It was accessible with Orca from this point, and I was able to get connected. Now here's something I don't understand. In the network devices my wireless card isn't even listed. I see two ether net devices, and a loop back device. But we are on the right track, because I can now use ubuntu with my wireless network. If it can be, how do you do this? Yes, I believe this is possible. When in the application, simply ress control + Orca + spacebar, to bring up orca preferences for that application. Hope this helps. Thanks, First of all, use intrepid at your own risk, if it breaks, you get to keep both pieces. Secondly, I am not aware of any issues with the installer, but I am not surprised something is broken. From after thursday, I will be able to focus more closely on accessibility bugs related to the live CD and installer, so I''l be able to do what I can to track this one down, and get it fixed. Re: I think there is a problem with wubi in intrepid

First, it will not install from the CD like hardy did, it has to download the file. That part works fine, and it seems to install fine, but the computer will not boot into ubuntu after it installs. I'm sure this will be fixed, but I just wanted to know if this is a known problem? I do get a message that says invalid CD menu when I put the live CD in the computer, so maybe this has something to do with it. Since intrepid is a development release, you use it at your own risk. If i breaks, you get to keep both pieces. I will ahve a look at wubi and accessibility in the coming weeks, but please note that wubi is undergoing a rewrite. I am not sure whether the rewritten version is on the CDs yet, but I do know that things are in a state of flux, and are not likely settled yet, so please bare with us while we sort out these issues. Re: could You try to think about making language selection menu more accessible?

Janusz Chmiel wrote: Dear core developers of Ubuntu accessibility subsystems, I would like to please You, if your development team would be so kind and if You would try to think about making language accessibility menu during booting from A live CD more accessible. Unfortunately, this is not as easy as one might think, due to the way the language selection menu is done in the first place. The language selection is done by the CD boot utility, called gfxboot. Gfxboot is responsible for displaying the menu for choosing the CD options, the accessibility options, and the language selection. In order to make this speech friendly, gfxboot would have to be extended to know about sound cards, audio, and speech, which is way too much for an initial boot program. Having said that, Ii have an idea as to how this could be done, and hope to work on it for the release after Ubuntu Intrepid. What I am thinking of doing, is asking the user for their language if they enable accessibility. So for example, one would boot the CD, press enter for Enlgish for the time being, but when they choose to use speech for example, before any desktop or installer is shown, they get asked the language they want, with speech or braille as requested. I hope this sounds ok, but as I explained, making the initial language menu accessible is practically impossible. Re: why Your development team disabled automatic braille display detection and support during booting from A Ubuntu live CD?

Janusz Chmiel wrote: Good afternoon, I Am very sad and unhappy, that Your accessibility development team considered to remove automatic braille display autodetection and support during booting from A live CD. I found out, that Your development team probably made this decision while officially publishing Ubuntu Hardy Heron Live and later even official CD. I would like to please You, if You could give Me atleast a short programmers explanation, why did You have to make this change to ubuntu distribution. I very liked automatic braille display detection algorithms and I have never problems, that Brltty displayed message during booting up, that screen is not in A text mode. Because after starting Gnome, I could start Orca Screen Reader and I could enable braille support. Dispaly auto-detection is only possible for USB Braille displays, and even then, one of these displays had to be disabled for detection, due to it conflicting with other devices users used for serial devices, since the display and these serial devices used the same chip. Looking at the file that is responsible for the detection, /etc/udev/rules.d/85-brltty.rules, it appears that one of the HandyTech displays was the problem, which display it is exactly, I am not sure. For serial/bluetooth displays, unfortunately at the moment manual configuration is required, since it is not easily possible to detect these displays. There is a mechanism in place to configure these displays when one chooses to use Braille from the live CD accessibility menu, however this is not yet speech enabled, something which I hope to address in the release of Ubuntu after intrepid. If something else is broken, I would appreciate bug reports, and the steps you have taken to reproduce the problem. Unfortunately I do not have a USB Braille display, so cannot test and check detection myself. I hope this clears things up, and please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions. I have a question about networking in intrepid
Hi, has anyone tried networking in intrepid. I see my windows computer, but when I try to open a folder it asks for a password. I don't have a password on those folders. It seems to me that this worked fine when I was on the wired network, so I will try that tomorrow. But if it is the wireless causing this, does anyone know why? has networking changed in intrepid?
Good evening. In older versions of ubuntu you had to download the windows share package. In intrepid I was not asked about sharing folders with windows networks when I shared a folder. Is this now automatic? Or is there something that has to be done differently? Thanks Mike. -- Ubuntu-accessibility mailing list Ubuntu-accessibility@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-accessibility
