Shutdown and logout dialog problem under Jaunty

2009-03-01 Thread Hammer Attila
Dear List!

Possible fix shutdown and logout inaccessible Orca problem under Jaunty
with final release?
I write a new comment my ubuntu bugreport with launchpad
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/328473):
Wilie Walker writing this answer my question with this problem:
"Hi Attila:

I believe that patch is not what the GTK+ folks intended to be the
solution. Instead, the third (the last) patch is the one to use, and is
 the one that
has been committed.

If it's not working, either a11y integration is broken in Ubuntu or some
more work needs to be done. I suspect a11y integration may be broken
on Ubuntu
and they need to know about it:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=535827#c30
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=535827#c31

Can you contact Ubuntu, please, and try to work through this issue with
 them?

Thanks!

Will"

I copyed two comment with bug 535227
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=535827#c30
and http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=535827#c31)

"did at-spi have a schema before?

If it didn't, the ubuntu packager may forgotton to add

gconftool-2 --makefile-install-rule ...

as a post installation step in the package.

Can you confirm that the schema is installed by doing:

gconftool-2 --get-schema-name
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/gtk-modules/gail:atk-bridge

If it's not installed it will yell.

Could be there's a bug in GConf like Jens mentions as a possibility, too,
though. Not sure.

I'm guessing this is a packaging bug, because when I'm on a rawhide
machine and
I do:

gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/gnome_settings_daemono/gtk-modules

(to undo the gconftool call from my test above)

and then do

gconftool-2 -R /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/gtk-modules

(which presumably does something similar to the g-s-d code)

then I get:

gnomebreakpad = true
gail:atk-bridge = /desktop/gnome/interface/accessibility

which comes from the schemas and seems right."

Bug in Ubuntu 9.04

2009-03-01 Thread Fabiano Fonseca
Dears

I've found a bug on Ubuntu 9.04. It happens that Orca does not speak the
itens of any list that are not visible on the screen. So, everytime that
one has to scroll down the scroll bar to see the itens of given list,
Orca will not speak those itens. It happened on the add/remove programs
list, on the list of plugins of Pidgin, on the list of apps on the
keybord shortcut preferences and so on.

Hi,
With some exceptions thunderbird 3.0 beta works very well with orca.

I think a lt of blind/vision impaired people use Evolution or Thunderbird, but
this is a guess, since I don't know for sure, and I'll let them comment. I use
a text mode email coient called mutt, however it has a sleepish learning curve,
however it is very configurable, and very powerful.

E-mail?

2009-03-01 Thread Keith Creasy
What do you use for E-mail with Ubuntu and Orca? I did try Evolution and it
sort of worked in that I can check my e-mail and see the list of messages but
can't seem to actually read them.

Thanks.

problems with the shut down menu

2009-03-01 Thread mike
Hi, Ok, I removed the shut down idem from the top panel and sure enough the
menu returned.
But here is the problem I now have. In the top panel this menu was fully
accessible with Orca. Now that it has moved it is no longer red by Orca.
Does anyone know why, and if this is going to be corrected soon?
Mike.

Hopefully it will. This is to do with Ubuntu changing the notification/pop-up
system used on the desktop, and the new system is not yet accessible. I believe
this is being worked on, but when it will get into Ubuntu I don't yet know.

Could you plesae file a bug against the libcanberra source package, so that
this issue can be tracked in a bug? Plesae also indicate whether you have orca
set up to start automatically, and what speech backend, i.e gnome-speech or
speech-dispatcher you are using?

Thanks

Yes, this is a stupid UI decision made by people in Ubuntu who haven't thought
about accessibility. Luckily, getting the menu options back is simply a matter
of finding the user switch applet, and removing it from the panel. Things are
now set up so that if the user switch applet is not on any of the panels, the
menu items will return.

I am also working on disabling this applet for accessibility installs, as I
think it makes more sense to use menu items as well.

Why missing shutdown and user logout menus in system menu with 9.04 Alpha 5?

2009-03-01 Thread Hammer Attila
Dear List!

Some week ago missing shutdown and logout menus my Jaunty system with
system menu. The last menu item is About Ubuntu.
This is a bug, or new feature request?
I known, in top panel possible shutdown or restart the system with user
switch applet, but some time Orca does'nt say this icon, only if the
blind user pressing the Ctrl+F1 key.

Because I like old menus, how can I get back this menus? :-):-)

Another think:
The shutdown and logout dialog works again my system.
See my last comment with http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=535827
When I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete key, Orca says correct the displayed dialog.
