Some interesting errors when I try setting accessibility settings in terminal both LightDm and Gdm in Precise

2012-02-24 Thread Hammer Attila

Hy,

I doed now with Ubuntu 12.04 installation, without manual partitioning.
I try look possible setting LightDm related a11y settings in terminal.
I try run sudo -u lightdm gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface
toolkit-accessibility true command, but this command don't working.
Try similar command after I installed Gdm package, I simple run old sudo
-u gdm gconftool-2 -s -t bool /desktop/gnome/interface/accessibility
true command.

Look following error messages:
root@hammera-Satellite-L300:/home/hammera# sudo -u lightdm gsettings set
org.gnome.desktop.interface toolkit-accessibility true

This is surprise, because I think the casper-a11y-helper script doing
similar command for LightDm login manager, if the blindness profile is
selected (access=v3 commandline parameter). Because have now this
errors, during installation this commands runs, but not setting proper?
How can possible setting in LightDm the accessible login feature? Unity
Greeter already supports it for screen reader function?

Installing Ubuntu via Wubi and getting Orca up and running automatically

2012-02-24 Thread chris hallsworth

Hello all.
First post to this list after being on here for a few days. I have
joined as I want to get back into the world of Ubuntu. I am a former
computer studies student, obtained a certificate as a result, so should
be smart enough smiles.
Because I don't wish to use Ubuntu full time, I would rather install it
in some safe environment, like via Wubi, the Ubuntu installer program
for Windows. Now, I sort of have this to work, by choosing Braille in
the accessibility part of the installer. However, when I reboot, I am
asked to select a Braille display connection, like USB. Since I do not
have one, do I choose exit and if so will Orca still come up
automatically, both before and after log in?
I realize there is Vinux, but there is no real safe way to install,
except in a virtual environment. This is good, however it is sometimes
nice to try things on a physical set up, due to native hardware support,
improved performance, etc.

Thank you in advance for any enquiries. It will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Installing Ubuntu via Wubi and getting Orca up and running automatically

2012-02-24 Thread Alan Bell
hello, I am not completely certain about the wubi thing as I don't have
Windows, but normally when installing 11.10 you boot the CD or USB
image, wait for the sound of the drums, this means the ubiquity
installer is started, then press ctrl+s to start orca, from there you
can alt-tab back to the ubiquity window and proceed with the install or
go to a live desktop.

Update on Ubuntu 11.10

2012-02-24 Thread chris hallsworth

Hello all.
Well, I tried what I was going to do, but it didn't work as planned. I
installed it via Wubi, selecting Braille as the accessibility option.
Due to bugs in 11.10 I didn't get speech at the log in screen, and Orca
didn't come up automatically after log in. This however worked with
11.04. So will be sticking to that until 12.04 comes out officially.

Thanks for all your help.
