Re: about the windows installer
Perhaps there is second boot option in the Windows boot manager. Look at boot.ini what is there. Re: orca on the live cd
Hi, I tested Live CD from October 10 with following results: Atleast on my notebook, there is, I suppose, collision between sound playing and Orca speech. Ubuntu on my laptop works, but with these problems: - It is certainly impossible to do eg. installation simply by clicking on the install icon. - When Orca is speaking and some other app tries to play some sound Orca crashes,. Right! I tried what worked in Debian and it is not working in Ubuntu. But currently Ubuntu doesn't work for me at all. sound in Wine
Hello all, When I started to use, or better said, play with Ubuntu I had a problem with sound. Orca and some other applications couldn't play simultaneously. I then applied some tricks from Orca wiki and that helped. Now I probably had the similar problem in Wine. Either Wine and Orca, or two Wine applications cannot play something simultaneously. For example, the Screamer Radio plays, but crashes when I forget to switch off the Orca speech. Because Wine is inaccessible, I cannot look at winecfg to correct this problem. Can someone help me? Something like a registry patch with correct settings would be strongly appreciated. I managed to install eg. MS SAPI SDK 5.1 and Jim Kitchen's games. These would probably work if the problem with sound could be corrected. Many Thanks. -- Ubuntu-accessibility mailing list Ubuntu-accessibility@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-accessibility
The Ubuntu beta doesn't work for me
Hi all, I tried the Ubuntu beta Live CD yesterday on my Asus A6Rp AP050. It doesn't work: - I cannot switch to console for starting brltty (I don't have USB one). - The Alt+F2 doesn't work. I think that nothing works at all. Too bad I haven't some experienced person who would tell me what is happening precisely. - It seems that only thing I can do is to restart it and instead of restarting it freezes :-D. - I tried acpi=off of course. (I must do it for Ubuntu and in general any kernel to boot) Note that I have the 7.04 working so something in beta is broken. -- Ubuntu-accessibility mailing list Ubuntu-accessibility@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-accessibility

what changed on the live CD?
Hello, I downloaded the live CD today. I tried to boot it, but either it hangs up, or something changed in the boot process that I am not aware of. I started as usual 1. boot. 2. f5, 3, enter. 3. f6, hpet=disable (needed on my laptop), enter. The boot process started, but cdrom stopped after a while. Some prompts, or perhaps errors? ubuntu on my laptop is working!
Hello, I have asus a6rp ap050. I downloaded live CD from two days ago. I am very pleased, sound is working without problem. Also orca with braille display. I did not test it very seriously, I must still learn gnome and orca. Only f5 and option 4 from boot menu is not working yet. I tested it as follows: I pressed f5, 4, Enter. f6, "hpet=disable" Enter. Then after a while u, Enter 0, Enter al, Enter Nothing happened. I had to start brltty manually, then ran and configure orca. Logged off, started orca through aalt+f2. -- Ubuntu-accessibility mailing list Ubuntu-accessibility@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-accessibility
testing braille display
Hello all, I tested setup of my display compatible with ALVA with negative result. It works from console by runing this command: sudo brltty -b al -d /dev/ttyUSB0 I tested the brltty-setup (F5, 4, enter, enter)with lines: u 0 al Display was not started. Several lines from /var/log/syslog: Feb 13 20:30:02 ubuntu kernel: [ 60.877137] Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/casper/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.gz quiet splash -- hpet=disable brltty=ask Feb 13 20:30:03 ubuntu brltty[6462]: /lib/brltty/libbrlttybask.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Feb 13 20:30:03 ubuntu brltty[6462]: Cannot load braille driver: /lib/brltty/libbrlttybask.so I suppose that the parameter "brltty=ask" is for running the brltty-setup. Re: Braille support testing
Hello, I reviewed the script, and didn't understand the u option. What is set there? I am using braille display compatible with Alva ABT. It is connected via pl2303 USB-to-serial converter which is supported by Linux. When I start brltty, I specify /dev/ttyUSB0 device. Is this the case? Or some other configuration option must be introduced for my situation? Ubuntu on Asus notebook
Hello all, I tried the feisty live cd on my notebook. The sound is not functioning. The orca is not running "Cannot connect to display ...". I can only run the brltty from console. I have very good Internet connection, so downloading iso image is a matter of several minutes. I would like to help with testing but I have almost no experiences. Which information is needed? Running Ubuntu live cd from vfat partition
Hello those more experienced. I don't like slow cdroms and burning, so I "developed" the following way to run the live distros from a FAT32 partition using loadlin. The following bat file runs GRML and it works very well. cd grml loadlin linux26 initrd=minirt26.gz root=/dev/hdb1 ramdisk_size=10 swspeak brltty=al,/dev/ttyS0,ibm850 Of course I extracted the contents of the iso image to disk. I tried to run ubuntu in similar way, but it doesn't work. I think that I must modify initrd in some way but I don't know how to do this. Can someone help me?
