Ubuntu Gnome and Wubi install: is it possible?
Hello, everyone, Just wanted to try new release of Ubuntu Gnome. I usually try ubuntu via wubi install since I want to avoid repartitioning my hard disk and I hate performance degradation caused by using virtual machines. However, it seems that installation of Ubuntu Gnome via Wubi is not possible. I downloaded the Ubuntu Gnome iso and try running wubi from it, but it does not have Ubutnu Gnome listed as a possible variant. And whatever I choose it starts downloading another iso from the internet. When I take the wubi executable and put it near the iso image I downloaded in the same folder, nothing changes. So, if it at all possible to make installing Ubuntu Gnome via Wubi, any help would be more than appreciated. P.S. my question may sound off topic for this list, but one of the reason I use wubi is a possibility tu turn on braille support before installing the system. Re: Light DM was muted
Hi Dave, and others, 28.04.2012 06:25, Dave Hunt пишет: Hi, You may have heard, in past few days, of my troubles with light dm and orca? Turns out, it was muted. I'm wondering how to prevent a recurrence of this? I have the same problem, actually, on one of my system. But as a braille user I noticed, that orca actually starts on login screen, but only braille output is working. If you do need speech, you may use the following dirty hack: press insert+space to invoke orca parameters dialog. Actually it won't launch, but, at least, you will get speech back temporarily. thumb drive install
Hello, list! Recently I successfulley installed Ubuntu 9.10 using usb flash drive. And now I have a question if it is possible to modify files on the drive so that accessibility features would be activated by default when booting from that drive. Since now many computers support booting from usb devices I think this approach might help significantly with eyes free installation of linux systems in general and ubuntu in particular. Thanks in advance, Sergei. -- Ubuntu-accessibility mailing list Ubuntu-accessibility@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-accessibility
Re: Orca edgy not installing
Hello, all. As far as the installation of latest ubuntu distribution is concerned, I would like to share with my personal experience. 1. Pressing F5, 3, and enter (twice) did not work for me. 2. Booting from the CD without any startup options worked fine. I've been able to start orca manually. 3. I successfully installed ubuntu yes-free, by running orca as root before launching ubiquity. 4. The only problem I have with the installer is that I can not select my time zone. I chose English as my default language (since it is the only one supported by the tts engine), but when I try to select my timezone in the next dialog, orca just stop speaking after a few second. 5. If I just bypass this step, all other steps go quite smoothly and installation finishes without problem. I get a talking system after the reboot, with all my other operating systems added to the grub menu, functioning network etc...
