I have not installed Feisty yet, so my reply might not make sense. Anyhow, I wanted to point out that the user has to open the System Preferences window (Gnome Control Centre) in order to get the menu from which he can choose a single control panel. Indeed we shouldn't, but the menu system is more efficient for a lot of people without accessibility needs too, so I'm still against getting rid of it altogether. Both Windows XP (dunno about Vista) and Mac OS X allow menu access to individual control panels if desired, and it seems unlikely to me that we've done more user research than they have. I think it's a bad idea for two reasons: * We cannot keep legacy approaches around forever. It will clutter the interface with options and clutter the code. If gnome decides on this option we should work to improve it (where needed) and not try to bring back the old IMHO. * We should never rely on the legacy solution to provide us with the accessibility features. It will always be less discoverable and may suddenly disappear. Making the new control centre accessible should not be that hard. Who can we contact about it? FWIW, this is a proposal for GNOME 2.18 that may or may not be adopted (although it looks like it will be). I've never been too keen on it, but assuming it gets in, I'm hopeful that it will still be possible to switch back to the more efficient, old-style menu access too. I think we should pursue that option. Only trouble is that the items are sorted by category first, then alphabetically (is that a problem? the selection could skip through categories). Re: Accessibility of gnome-controlcenter?
There is a filter text box. It seems to gain focus automatically when the Control Center window is first opened. So type "sound" and then tab to the sounds button.
