The beeping you are experiencing is indeed strange. I've not
experienced it before, so I'm not sure if this is Orca or not. One
thing you might try is running orca from a gnome-terminal window and
checking to see if it emits any ominous looking stack traces as you try
to type. If you get some, please send them on.
In addition, I wonder if the keys you are pressing are initiating some
sort of multi-key sequence for entering characters. Do you have a
sighted colleague that would be able to try repeat your typing
experiences on your machine and logged into your account, except without
Orca running? I'm curious if that person would run into the same
problems.

be to the right of the keyboard, at is shift Apostrophe and shift 2 is
Double Quotes.
I can't understand why I am having this problem which I have had since
Ubuntu has been installed as the At sign works fine.
