Re: [ubuntu-art] Who's Excellent Logo in GDM
I don't like the contrast of the box and the background on the lower left, but otherwise that looks quite nice. The asymmetry works very well. [ubuntu-art] Who's Logo Work
On Tue, 2006-10-10 at 16:29 +0100, Who wrote: > These fix those issues in a few ways As I have always said -- your work is pretty incredible Who. Although I fundamentally disagree with the design decision to put the dual curve into the logo, your work is the most standout by far. In particular, Saturated_Full_Logo_018.png is probably the most refined. It offers the most elegant chroming treatment. A note on the glossing / chroming: * Traditional airbrush techniques generally will lean towards a sharper falloff / gradient. As you can see with 18, the sharper falloff yield the most convincing results. Two pennies worth of trial might be to increase the bottommost sheen where the black transitions into white and amplify the gradient. Again, sharp falloff, but slightly more extreme towards the deep black. Great work! TJS PS: I honestly believe that our most logical path for the curving is to modify the curve on the text logo as it is nearly impossible to reconcile the curve - flat - curve option. One possible variation on this might be to wisp the entry to the 'U' and the exit on the rightmost 'U' to minimize the effect. More of a similarity to water surface tension adhesion to glass on the perimeter. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art
Re: [ubuntu-art] Last minute logo love leaves littler outlines
Who wrote: These fix those issues in a few ways I know you said no gradients on the gloss, but I tried it the other way around on 18 anyway as a 'see what we can see' experiement. It was an attempt to make the text feel somehow darker but the gloss line still visible... It took 30 seconds to do - I thought I might as well try it... Good call - when you do it like this it looks really good! Mark -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

[ubuntu-art] My opinion about Edgy artwork
Hi, First of all, wallpaper and sounds are really great, especially sounds which fit Ubuntu distribution perfectly. Really great work. Unfortunetly, I have some notes. Red captions on GDM with errors like "wrong username or password" look very ugly. They don't look well and they're hardly visible. Some icons don't match to others or they functions. For example, why moving to trash icon have a shredding picture? Next examply is ugly "Quit" button which looks like ol' Gnome-theme button. The worst change is new usplash. Linux users are used to watching useful informations about starting services. Now, I don't know where my computer crashed (which on Edgy's live-cd happens very often). The picture looks bad. Simply, previous was better. Now, there is even no distribution name. Moreover, I can see some compression symptoms on biggest resolutions (1280x1024 for example). Now, some psychology information. If nothing on screen moves, there is illusion - user thinks that some process takes more time. He's bored and upset that he don't know what's happening. User thinks "Oh, geez, progress bar stopped. What now?". After 15 seconds: "Oh, no I think my computer crashed" and he makes hard reset. I know it from my own experience on a hibernation process example. It takes about a minute and during this user see only a black screen. I resetted my computer twice. Third time, I waited a little longer and, oh my god, hibernation worked! Re: [ubuntu-art] cancel / apply icons
Please note that we're asking for their inclusion in Tango, not Human. Well I for one find that the Tango icons are remarkably non-Humanish. Tango icons feel cartoonish and artificial (I mean this as style metaphors not critisism, Tango is great) and generally blend in rather poorly with Human IMO. The old Gnome icons are non-glossy and pixelised so they stand out quite a bit too. The real solution is to create new icons in the Human style (as has been done with the Apply icon if I'm not mistaken). -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

Re: [ubuntu-art] Logout sound
Hi guys, Thanks for explaining why the sound has been shortened. I'm starting to warm to the new sound, although it still makes me feel rushed. I think that's an important point: the old sound used to leave me feeling satisfied. I personally don't mind if my system takes a few seconds to shut down if it feels more polished by doing so. If everything else was allowed to continue shutting down in the background, there'd be no time wasted on slower machines, and faster machines would power off as soon as the sound finishes. [ubuntu-art] booting up screen and desktop
Hi, I love the way how Ubuntu 6.0.6 was booting up with "ubuntu" on the black background with visible working checklist. I also liked Draper's standard desktop background. Can we have an option to be able to choose Draper's graphics? I have a sound drums when my Ubuntu starts up so my family knows that I am not windows slave any more. I used 85% because 90% was undetectable - perhaps my monitor is funny? OK, these are looking good. Some more comments. * don't do the gloss as gradients. Some of the logos show the gloss on the circle-of-friends as a radial highlight (circular glow) where you really just want a single flat gloss with a crisp line. * the downward drop on the gloss line at the end was a bad idea - mea culpa - thanks for trying it and showing it but lets go with either flat to the end, or a slight uptick on the last u. * try to keep the gloss line flatter (and a fraction higher) on the ubuntu. * don't forget to gloss the head of the top-right person KEEP GOING!
