Hello, everybody I'm testing the New Wave theme and I really like it.
I'd fix the Firefox issue creating a file name userChrome.css on my firefox
profile folder (usually "~/.mozilla/firefox/ramdom.default/chrome/") with
the following lines:

menu {
  color: white ! important;
}

menubar, menulist, menubutton, menuitem {
  color: black ! important;
}

The only thing different compared with other GTK programs it's when you
press the menu the color remains white.
Hope that this helps.
Regards.

PS: You can see how New Wave looks on my system in

Re: [ubuntu-art] Kith Intrepid

2008-05-10 Thread Ken Vermette
Kith Intrepid will use pretty much every button/widget from Unions frame
design, the main difference will be in the actual gnome widgets, which I've
sketched out a cleaner more coherent look for.

If anyone wants to create demo images for the concept, it would really help
out (I don't have regular access to computers because I'm undergoing
military training; nonetheless the software)

The quick start guide for PPA's can be found here:

http://help.launchpad.net/PPAQuickStart

although quick might be a bit too optimistic it does seem straightforward.

As far as firefox is concerned I am still pretty much in the dark as to how it
exactly uses a gtk theme. I guess this will be one of the things we need to
work on before intrepid.

I've searched the web and found that the colors in firefox are handled
by userChrome.css file. I've made one and now the menus are gray but
when active the gray does not changes to black. If there is css expert

Perhaps this is a good point to start thinking about having a package
in Launchpad and a BZR branch for the theme, and then you can have a
Launchpad PPA repository for people to be testing the theme from.

Now the theme includes the metacity borders by default and have updated

Excellent work François! I've replaced all nm-xxx icons but it still
shows me the old one. What icons should I replace? There are many sizes
16x16 to 48x48. It will be better if you create a network icon for no
connection. Did you thought of the shape of buttons and so on?

sure, but as a group we could take years deciding such things, if at
all.

IMO it's best to simply start making themes in small groups based on
your own ideas with the intent of them being tested in the wild and
(ideally) improved as a result.

perhaps then - after all this process - Mark will become aware of the
theme, decide he likes it and make it the default. if not, perhaps it'll
be shipped anyway as part of a theme pack.

strong and unique ideas are often (not always) one of the first
casualties of a collaborative design process; the process of seeking
agreement in groups often results in the generalisation of design
proposals in order to fit the many varying interests of all group
members. what otherwise gave those original ideas a strong identity is,
by this process, averaged into mediocrity and those that contributed the
strong ideas lose motivation having seen this identity dissolved.

for this reason i think it's best to create prototype implementations
(even mockups) of good designs alone with the ends of inspiring
collaborators to improve that implementation.

the New Wave theme group are a good example of this process in action,
so far. IMO this approach has the best chance of success, most things
considered.

cheers,

Yes, it was like I thought. You've early me.
Infact I changed the value of metacity_theme_opacity from 0.75 to 1.0
and I solved the problem.

http://img230.imageshack.us/my.php?image=newwavemetacitycompiznofe6.png

Another solution is to flag metacity_theme_shade_opacity and set
metacity_theme_opacity to 58 (or other).

http://img366.imageshack.us/my.php?image=newwavemetacitycompizwias1.png

I think that it's the most logical solution because it's not a metacity
problem (or gtkrc engine), but a specific configuration of compiz.
For me the problem of active\inactive window can be fixed with compiz
setup.
