That would have been much more dramatic if I spelled it properly... Round 2!

"Bukisa" - Show and display, show and display our icons.

I agree. Although I don't know which one is better (dark outline or not).
Dark outline makes the small version easy to identify. But doesn't
look too cool on the big icon.
Maybe, having a bit of outline when small, but not that dark?

Cool. God knows I set a bunch of folders based on content manually. I
just wonder if there's any place in GNOME that does? Maybe xgd-user dirs
have support for this? If not, there's nothing wrong with shipping extra
icons for users to set themselves. I do this for Studio.

But we are just replacing the old folder icon with new one. It's kind of
a merge the new folders with the old iconset - no other changes just the
folders.

That will be the first step towards Breath (maybe Air, what do you

So we have:

* Breath
* Breeze
* Ozone (via kwwii on IRC)

Sorry to be stuck on my tagline. It just so rocks. :) And gives a nice

"Because humans need oxygen."

Could you add a smaller version (something like 22x22)? It goes a long way to

One of the aims being to get away from the heavy tango outlines is
reason enough to choose oxygen as a base, I suppose.

Breath or Breeze would be ok. Inhale makes me think of certain
substances, but maybe that's ok, too :)

= Ideas for the early stages =

Define a set of background colours to make sure the icons will look
alright against Ubuntu themes. This should also have the effect to set a
certain tendency in the palette, without defining it directly.
(It should be evaluated, if icons can be adapted to varying backgrounds
simply by applying gradation curves)

Create abstract icons like a sphere and a box to give an idea about
perspective and lighting.

Define the virtual environment: Lighting and surfaces that are hinted at
in reflections. It seems Human and Oxygen assume light straight from
above. This simplifies shadows. I think the default theme and the icons
should assume the same light direction.

I think that is a start point and proposal to start to work. We can help
or not or make a new idea.

Not sure what you mean by that. At this time there are no guidelines for human
icons.

Yes.

Like any effort, that's how things can start. You either agree and help
or don't.

So you'd like to change from one icon guideline to another based on your
personal preference?

May I ask why?

[ubuntu-art] We *will* create a new icon set for Ubuntu.

2008-09-02 Thread Cory K.
Now don't let the title fool you. This effort is meant to start as a set
born from our community. Aiming for a default replacement but not
Dependant on it. :)

So I have talked to a couple of people around here about basing a set on
Oxygen and combining it with elements of Human. An idea made public with
the "Folder Icon challenge." thread.

We start with a base Oxygen set and replace the icons as suitable ones
are created. Only really using Oxygen as a style guideline. The idea is
to create a modern a set as Oxygen but with that distinctly Human feel.
(minus the Tango outline) :P

I will be setting up the infrastructure using wiki/bzr/PPA/Launchpad to
handle it all. Including packaging. All submissions will be to the list
and I will manage the uploading.

Here is an *early example* of what the wiki page will look like:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/Artwork/UbuntuStudioIconSet The
idea will be that all the images will be in BZR and linked to in the
wiki page. That way, when BZR is updated, so will the wiki page.

I had wanted to use the name "Breath" because I liked the tagline
"Because humans need oxygen" but I'm unsure. Maybe "Inhale"?

As far as puttin' KDE in GNOME I don't care. If I have my way all of the
icons will be replaced anyway. The plan will be to write a very
thoughtful and credit-giving announcement to the KDE crowd once we have
some semblance of a release.

I plan on handling *ALL* of the *technical* duties around this effort.
Which is what seems to be lacking the most around alot of our work. So
what we will need after that is intelligent, informed discussion along
with great artistic work from the folks we have around here and anyone
else we can bring into the fold.

This is all very early and still needs lots of discussion but I'm
gettin' the ball rollin'.

So. Name, thoughts?

O.o;

That's actually a very good question. I'll post a closed folder when I get a
few minutes to make one later on today.

It looks pretty good, but the _[]X buttons on an inactive window are too
dark to be able to recognize them.

Yes! Any changes to the themes can be sent directly to me - I will then update
the PPA and inform everyone of the changes. For instance, last night the New
Wave theme was updated a couple of times :-) Once you have the package
installed the update manager should take care of telling you about any
updates.

Wow, that is really impressive! One thing to note is that the system uses both
open and closed folders. How would it look if it is closed?
