The colours of the 'pixels' on that second link could be changed. I
don't like the JPG one, but it's just to trigger conversation. The
idea was to symbolise the differences in the different image formats
(png has alpha transparency, GIF has a limited palette , JPG has a
 larger palette with no transparency.)

Interesting idea. I would use fewer color fields for the GIF them
though. The brighter fields for PNG do not manage to get transparency
across.

How about
- landscape photography, smooth with gradients, for JPG
- just a few colors in a grid for GIF
- some kind of poster with a cut-out shape in front of a checkerboard
(like used by GIMP and PS to show transparency)
?

But where do these actually appear, instead of image thumbnails?

Yes, I gave it the exact dimensions of A4 so hopefully it will look accurate.

I think image thumbnails are the only place for this type of icon.
Most people probably wouldn't see them because they have nautilus set
to have image previews (I know I do!). Just playing around really :)

Note that the current plan is to use the details from the Oxygen
filetypes. This shouldn't stop us from developing our own later but I
don't wanna get hung up on it now when we should just get the base files
together.

Locally one will always get the thumbnails but on network connections I
think the default turns 'em off. But there's also alot of image types
that aren't thumbnailed.

[ubuntu-art] Breathe - Major BZR update.

2008-10-02 Thread Cory K.
So after some chat and consideration of previous opinions it was decided
that the large format icon be changed from 256px to 128px. This will
provide enough hi-res detail for the future as well as simplify using
parts of the Oxygen set. Please redownload the updated template as well.

* Launchpad: https://launchpad.net/breathe-icon-set
* WIKI: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/BreatheIconSet

If you grab the trunk branch you will see I have started to populate
the Breathe folder. This will allow someone to symlink that folder to
~/.icons and keep up-to-date with changes. (you'll still have to pull
the updates though) The set falls back to GNOME only so it should be
pretty easy to see what needs done.

Things still need work for sure. We'll get there. Everyone is encouraged
to test.

[ubuntu-art] Breathe - Start-Here image.

2008-10-02 Thread Cory K.
So we need a start-here image. It's the one used in the Applications menu.

Here's the example of the one for Oxygen:

Ours obviously needs to be the Ubuntu logo. SVG:

So lets see what you crazy kids can com up with. :)

Hi,

can you give a slightly more 'layman' instructions for downloading the icons
? i couldn't see any other way to download the icons other than downloading
each file individually.

also, i may have accidentally registered for something called 'code import'.
i have no idea what it is.

thank you. will try to read up on launchpad in the next couple of days.

Delete it by going to
https://code.launchpad.net/~vcs-imports/breathe-icon-set/trunk and click
on the delete branch red button next to where it says
~vcs-imports/breathe-icon-set/trunk.
