Re: [ubuntu-art] Call for wiki review: Updating
On Sun, 2009-04-12 at 11:28 -0400, Andrew wrote: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Documentation/Updating I'm not so sure it is very relevant, especially the part about editing configure.ac This assumes a specific release structure. It also seems to be telling you to make a new upstream release for a change you did on someone else's source? There are some pretty decent guides in the wiki about packaging. For instance, updating an Ubuntu package to a new upstream release: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Recipes/PackageUpdate The problem is most artwork releases don't necessarily have any sort of build system as there is no need to compile them. So do, like official GNOME releases, in order to do some localization stuff at build time. Most of the packaging guides assume, for good reason, that you're working with a software release with all the autotools magic. Thanks, Andrew. If I don't hear any different opinion, I will remove that page and just link to the packaging guide. If those with experience in packaging artwork have specific knowledge to offer, it would be nice to have that written down on a new page ;) (Updating isn't such a good name.) -- Thorsten Wilms thorwil's design for free software: http://thorwil.wordpress.com/ -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art
[ubuntu-art] Status of Community Themes
Ken, I have not seen an updated package for community-themes come through. Do you know the status? Thanks, John -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art
[ubuntu-art] Community Themes Planning
Hi! I compiled this from the Community Themes Brainstorm thread, we mainly have to thank John Baer and Mr. Who for it: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Documentation/CommunityThemes What can we add or change? -- Thorsten Wilms thorwil's design for free software: http://thorwil.wordpress.com/ -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

What are the acceptable licenses for a theme? GPLv2 or v3? [ubuntu-art] Wiki Standard
Hi! New page on What to put Where in our wiki: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Documentation/Wiki I was tempted to explain Breathe as exception to the rule, simply because I wouldn't like to see more projects outside of Incoming. Outside of Incoming should be the framework, inside of Incoming the meat ;) With the these rules as they are, one could advocate to move https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/YouTube_Videos to Artwork/ -- Thorsten Wilms thorwil's design for free software: http://thorwil.wordpress.com/ -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

[ubuntu-art] Defining the Artwork Team Goals and Objectives
I technique often used to bring clarity to a team is stating the goals and objectives. Very useful to someone new and in light of the lively discussion of late this may help. Background Info: * Goals are broad; objectives are narrow. * Goals are general intentions; objectives are precise. * Goals are intangible; objectives are tangible. * Goals are abstract; objectives are concrete. * Goals can't be validated as is; objectives can be validated. I like to lead off with a vision statement which acts like a compass, always keeping us pointed in the right direction. I created a wiki page to capture our agreed outcome and I thought we would work this efforts through the list. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/GoalsAndObjectives I suggest starting by defining our vision. As an example: Our desire is to add value to the Ubuntu community by creating high quality artistic content and advocating the use of open source creative tools. The vision statement broadly defines who we are and is usually only a sentence or two. Your thoughts?
