Right these days my exams on, so crucial for me :)) ths time... well, it will be over on 19th, expect more support from my side then... but i do regularly chek the discussions here... Now I have something to discuss... As we know, theme is not like most software, and their development process. A theme should be complete, so users give positive feedback and use it than just checking and changing to some other complete theme... So i need to know, since we cann't make the mouse theme in primary stage, can we have Redhat mouse theme in this package, or is there some kind of problem having it in Ubuntu repo. Ubuntu cursor theme is good, but not as much as the redhat mouse theme is, can we reuse and integrate it. I am currenly using it. I did used MacOSX, Ubuntu and redhat, and analyzed something, so I am asking it. Don;t take it as like the theme so I want it. We will discuss why later. Also, we have to go beyong the tango, and the color Orange. I could not decide any better icon set for this proejct, and also we can't work on icons in this short time, what we can do is take tango as base, develop some own to make the icons more consistent towards our final proposals(for this session), and repack it. Means tweakings and mixing available and then working on the missing. For color theme palette, what do you have to propose. Sticking to single color so much is not a good idea, its a monotonic desktop experience. We can have some base colors, and have expressive designs over it. Do someone have color theory reading materials, they are very good to know what human likes and feel on color presentations. Wallpaper and Login screen is something after we decide the color palette. I should tell you guys, I am not a better artist, but creative in designing, my main focus is computer sc :) I did workd on Blender, Gimp and Inkscape primarily, and developed some web-templates. But I do a lot analyze to find best among availables. So I can help from that point, I am not sure If i will contribute some final art, but I can give my ideas and mockups. If agreed, please let me know how many people here are comfortable with designing GDM and writing its XML. Who among us are those who designs icons? And when we will be starting the work on Blueprint. We should not start doing things without the final color-palette and base designs. It would be wastage of time and effort. As for Iacopo's OranSun, its good, but there is again some things we would like to have changed. Like the sliders are not standard. I should create the OraSun palette... And yes you are right, the sliders are not standard and the scrollbar are very attractive (striped). We can think to put some rationalized. Infact I said we can start from my theme and edit it. Because I have done and collected a lot of good artwork in the place. One more thing, the button size in Ubuntu or clearlook is a little bigger, and we should have a little less height in the default button height. Is it possible through the gtkrc file to set the height of the bottons(which doesnt have one set)..?? Anyway, before we proceed, we need to put some time discussing about the current available theme on Gnome and other OS, what they represent, how they are good, and also which of them are better than other and why. This would probably lead us to know human feeling and reactions about the themes. We should not ignore what currently is available, they lead to better judgement and production. Yes, this is a great idea--but we also need to decide what we want to do, and make sure we don't tally too long on what others have done. This is easily the sort of topic we could discuss on forever, without getting anything done. It may be better to do this quickly generally, and then focus on it as we work on specific aspects of the theme. Right now Ubuntu looks very general, Fedora is working on better than best, but no steps taken to break the limit on Ubuntu. [ubuntu-art] De Edgy Artwork reflection
I'm thinking about Edgy future artwork and Dapper has close the Human theme cyles. With edgy there will be a new reinvented from skratch artwork.I like very much the new Orange Human expecilly the wallpaper and the icons (both Human and Tangerine). I put my opinion,my reflection in the next artwork.Starting from other concorrential no open OS like Xp (Microsoft) and Osx (Apple) we see that there is a big work on artwork. :DXp is tasted with a blue and green theme with yellow folder. Os x with a light cyan, white and gray color scheme. In this schemas there was not only a predominant color in the theme. So the reproach to Human theme is when a person looks ubuntu after 2 minutes says: ohh too much Brown (Breezy: wallpaper dark brow and brown gtk and brown metacity) or Too orange (dapper: orange icons, gtk and metacity) So do you consider that for edgy it will be better if there will be like 2 or 3 color: like 2 major colors and 1 minor. It will be beautiful to think at ubuntu and remember nature: so blue (sky), green (grass), brown (tree). If this is too xp-ish it can be taken a lot of color scheme. For example thinking at dapper, my thought is that it was better if the metacity was of another color than the orange. In this way the eye could rest and than all theme could be less boring and heavy. Ispirating by Ubuntu logo it is possibile to make the metacity of a black color and mixing the black color also in the wallpaper. for dapper we could have mix orange, black and sand begie. So I hope in edgy will be not only a predomint color but at lease two with variations. About the gtk I consider that we must continue to work with engines doing a synthesis of all best: I will take checkbox and V check form ubuntulooks, scrollbar and progress bar form gFlat engines (rezlooks modified) and tab and panel from Clearlooks. However a lot of good work has been done with wonderful ubuntulooks. So at the end I consider that we can make a personal ,special, recognizable and enviable look and feel mixing cairo animation taking the best from various engines, innvoative (not blue) colore schema but not boring and a touch of art.
