What if Sebastian made a beveled push-button style start-here button, like
the ones for the power icons featuring the Ubuntu logo on it instead of an
arrow, etc. That would certainly match.

Re: [ubuntu-art] Yukai theme ( Metacity )

2008-11-29 Thread Joshua Booth
Looks rather 70s, actually. The third one with the lines disrupts the
readability and just looks rather "out there." I prefer the second because
having the orange polygon in the middle looks out of place.

The curve of the minimize button is rather grainy, either from the
resolution or the way it was made. I suggest making it smoother.

[ubuntu-art] Canonical's approach to Jaunty

2008-11-04 Thread Joshua Booth
Doesn't this boil down to bugging the makers of Gnome? Where are the
improvements that we should be seeing? Windows 7 is already on its way here
and Gnome has the same old stuff. Sure, some updates in Intrepid, but
nothing really special. It all comes down to coding, in reality. Perhaps
it's our job to actually get involved in Gnome's development.

There are only seven movie editors I can find. Cinelerra may be
professional, but it has nowhere near the potential that the easy interface
of Windows Movie Maker had. The only thing that is Gnome-based and that
seems to have a nice interface is Kino, and it *doesn't even have a
timeline. *How are you supposed to make a movie without a timeline?

The only other program that does have a timeline is Kdenlive, but it's for
KDE and for some reason crashes whenever I use it. Plus there hasn't been an
update since 2007, and the latest news is from June 26, 2008.

The new version was scheduled for release in March. And the year is almost
through. It's definitely time for a new movie editor, one that has all the
functionality of Kdenlive and the usability of Kino.

This theme looks similar to a theme that I use (Out of 50+ themes I can't
find anything I like better) called NiteLight Gnome
http://ebupof.deviantart.com/art/NiteLite-GNOME-Pack-90872564. It's a good
thing that people are starting to make more black and white themes. I doubt,
however, it would go over well with Canonical.

[ubuntu-art] Transparency

2008-08-12 Thread Joshua Booth
Frankly, I don't understand people's attacks against transparency. I am so
sick of black panels and then the white panels aren't comfortable to me. If
they're transparent you can see right through to your comfortable wallpaper,
and also "clear" just looks cooler to me.

I believe someone said that rounded edges weren't possible yet or something
like that. The NewHuman theme for Ubuntu (which I finally downloaded to take
a better look at it myself, and I think it clashes in every respect,
especially the white on brown) has rounded edges by using its Metacity
theme.

I don't understand why you need an actual copy of the Will Williams mockup.
If he did it, surely the Ubuntu Design Team can.

Re: [ubuntu-art] Intrepid Ibex Theme

2008-08-11 Thread Joshua Booth
To me this looks much more modern and usable than the current Ibex theme in
