On the other hand, artists willing to contribute probably will start
looking for possible tasks from that page. It's kinda weird to have the info
about wallpaper contests for most derivatives and not mention the Ubuntu
 contest.

Why not? It can be listed in the tasks. Nobody just took the time to do
it. ;p
It's similar to any of the Xubuntu/Edubuntu/Lubuntu tasks.
Though this team(or anyone) submits and this team can direct, Afaik, the
respective teams have the final choice on the matter.

Or this is more similar to the Bugsquad logo task, submissions were not
chosen/finalized by the artwork team.

Well, the Flickr pool is mentioned at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork#Places
and this is on the same level.

Feel encouraged to add a note there.

How is any decision made? Someone comes along and makes the decision.
You don't have to be anyone here to make a decision. I've always thought
that was a flaw in our team organisational structure to be honest.

Oh well, at least we get a guarantee of 3 illustrative wallpapers on the
CD. I'd be nice to see the nod from the desktop team about the inclusion
though to make sure it's all good.

I'll find a bod here to ask but I'd imagine it's not an issue. These
files will likely be smaller than a photo as they're likely to be less
complex but I'll check in with the platform guys and try and get a steer
on how much room I have on the disk.

We can also point people to the group on Flickr and finalists on the
other site to ensure that the community have plenty of pictures to
choose from.
