Re: [ubuntu-art] Graphite vs Heat theme
I've tried glossing up the Graphite-Heat theme to be a bit more silvery. Basically - what I've done is to lighten menuitem preligts, lighten buttons from the background. I also lightened menu backgrounds a bit, to make them stand out better[1], and played with a "contrast" switch I found in the ubuntulooks engine (with only little effect though). I'm not entirely happy with the result, but it has some qualities, so I though I might share :-) I'm not sure that "glossy" was an original goal of the graphite/heat themes anyway..? I attached my gtkrc. Cheers, Mikkel [1]: The danger of low contrast themes is to that stuff tend to blend together... Perhaps I'm just old. PS: I added a HeatedGraphite entry to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArtworkTeam/DapperTasks. It links to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArtworkTeam/HeatedGraphite (which I hope someone will create soonish - hint hint). #Heat, by Efbie : # Simple color variation from the ubuntu human theme style "clearlooks-default" { GtkButton ::default_border= { 0, 0, 0, 0 } GtkRange ::trough_border = 0 GtkPaned ::handle_size = 6 GtkRange ::slider_width = 15 GtkRange ::stepper_size = 15 GtkScrollbar ::min_slider_length = 35 GtkCheckButton ::indicator_size= 14 GtkMenuBar ::internal-padding = 0 GtkTreeView::expander_size = 14 GtkExpander::expander_size = 16 GtkScale ::slider-length = 31 # GtkToolbar ::button-relief = GTK_RELIEF_NORMAL # GtkMenuBar ::shadow-type = GTK_SHADOW_OUT # GtkScrollbar ::has-secondary-forward-stepper = 1 # GtkScrollbar ::has-secondary-backward-stepper = 1 GtkButton ::child-displacement-x = 0 GtkButton ::child-displacement-y = 0 xthickness = 1 ythickness = 1 fg[NORMAL]= "#101010" fg[PRELIGHT] = "#101010" fg[ACTIVE]= "#00" fg[SELECTED] = "#ff" fg[INSENSITIVE] = "#b5b3ac" bg[NORMAL]= "#efebe7" # was #efebe7 bg[PRELIGHT] = "#f5f3f0" bg[ACTIVE]= "#d0c8c1" bg[SELECTED] = "#837D7B" #"#645453" # Human c8ad8c bg[INSENSITIVE] = "#efebe7" base[NORMAL] = "#ff" base[PRELIGHT]= "#ff" # Human b39169 base[ACTIVE] = "#D9D2D2" #DBC19A base[SELECTED]= "#AAA8A8" # Human b39169 base[INSENSITIVE] = "#efebe7" text[NORMAL] = "#00" text[PRELIGHT]= "#00" text[ACTIVE] = "#00" text[SELECTED]= "#00" text[INSENSITIVE] = "#b5b3ac" engine "ubuntulooks" { menubarstyle = 2 # 0 = flat, 1 = sunken, 2 = flat gradient menuitemstyle = 1 # 0 = flat, 1 = 3d-ish (gradient), 2 = 3d-ish (button) listviewitemstyle = 1 # 0 = flat, 1 = 3d-ish (gradient) progressbarstyle = 2 # 0 = candy bar, 1 = fancy candy bar, 2 = flat animation = TRUE contrast = 0.3 } } style "clearlooks-wide" = "clearlooks-default" { xthickness = 2 ythickness = 2 } style "clearlooks-wider" = "clearlooks-default" { xthickness = 3 ythickness = 3 } style "clearlooks-button" = "clearlooks-wider" { #bg[PRELIGHT] = "#fcfaf7" bg[NORMAL]= "#f5f1f2" bg[PRELIGHT] = "#f5f3f0" bg[ACTIVE] = "#d9d3cc" bg[SELECTED] = "#8E8A88" # fg[ACTIVE] = "#ff" } style "clearlooks-notebook" = "clearlooks-wide" { bg[NORMAL] = "#efebe5" bg[INSENSITIVE] = "#efebe5" } style "clearlooks-tasklist" = "clearlooks-default" { xthickness = 5 ythickness = 3 } style "clearlooks-menu" = "clearlooks-default" { xthickness = 2 ythickness = 1 bg[NORMAL] = "#faf8f5" } style "clearlooks-menubar-item" = "clearlooks-button" { fg[PRELIGHT] = "#00" bg[PRELIGHT] = "#ff" } style "clearlooks-menu-item" = "clearlooks-default" { xthickness = 2 ythickness = 3 bg[SELECTED] = "#ff" fg[PRELIGHT] = "#00" text[PRELIGHT] = "#00" } style "clearlooks-tree" = "clearlooks-default" { xthickness = 2 ythickness = 2 } style "clearlooks-frame-title" = "clearlooks-default" { fg[NORMAL] = "#404040" } style "clearlooks-tooltips" = "clearlooks-default" { xthickness = 4 ythickness = 4 bg[NORMAL] = { 1.0,1.0,0.75 } } style "clearlooks-progressbar" = "clearlooks-wide" { xthickness = 2 ythickness = 2 fg[PRELIGHT] = "#ff" bg[SELECTED] = "#837D7B" } style "clearlooks-combo" = "clearlooks-button" { } style "metacity-frame" = "clearlooks-default" { bg[SELECTED] = "#544F4C" } style "clearlooks-scrollbar" = "clearlooks-default" { bg[NORMAL] = "#ff" bg[PRELIGHT] = "#ff" } # Evolution uses bg and fg for its ETree instead of base and text like it should style "evolution-hack" = "clearlooks-default" { bg[ACTIVE] = "#DBC19A" bg[SELECTED] = "#FFD799" fg[ACTIVE] = "#00" fg[SELECTED] = "#00" } # widget styles class "GtkWidget" style "cl
Re: [ubuntu-art] Graphite vs Heat theme
Hello, Yes, the Tango aluminium and the graphite/steel colours really work well together. Pascal, it may be worth identifying this as one clear thrust of the community, and trying to organise a common push towards sharing the work to make one steel/graphite theme that is really very polished for inclusion in Dapper. This should be very exciting to ship two main theme. Why not ship a full system theme, i mean including grub, usplash and gdm ? We need specs to define what is a desktop theme, what is a system theme. We also need an application to simply switch between them. This should be a great features. Is this possible if dapper have 6 week more to be polished ? Maybe the global switch will be for dapper+1. Re: [ubuntu-art] Graphite vs Heat theme
It is true that our themes overlap a bit. The main difference i think is that Heat keeps a brown touch, while graphite tends to be blueish (maybe that's just a contrast with Heat ) I updated the theme to make it more like graphite, but i kept a brown touch. So my suggestion: Javier and Frédéric - team up. Ping pong a bit, and put a page on the wiki. I really think a theme along those lines has a place in Dapper. It seems like there's plenty work for several people - I don't know about the gray Tango theme from Heat - but I bet it can use a lot of work :-) (I think it's great btw). And if you care for my 2 cents on this, I think it is a good idea to keep a slightly brownish feel to it, like Heat has. That way it will feel more Ubuntish. Just very subtle - don't over do it :D Cheers, Mikkel On Sun, 2006-03-12 at 03:04 +0100, Frédéric van der Essen wrote: I just made a new theme.
