Hey guys !!!

The new GDM theme is so nice ! You rock guy ! :D Wahoo !! I've never
been so crazy about Ubuntu artwork !

Just at tips : the desktop wallpaper has a very nice sharpness in middle
of all the smoothness. Whereas GDM theme background is completely
smooth. You may add some kind of similar sharpness. Not the same.

Do you plan to add a face browser enable version ? I can do that for you
if you want.

Keep up the good work. Feisty will be so Dapper !

Étienne.

 Étienne.

I assume that this resolution was included as a mistake (ie it was the pic
used to make the 1024x768 scaled version). I wasn't sure so I went ahead and
included it.

I think that we should include pics for a few other resolutions/aspect ratios
though (we'll probably never get them all, but it would be a good start).

I guess making a list of candidates would be the way to start here.

The new splash progress bar is nice, much better with the reflective
black background than the grey one!

One problem though, sometimes you notice it flickers when it is
updating. I guess it's not an artwork problem but more a usplash
problem, but I thought I'd bring it up anyway.

Good job!

 Yes, I saw that today. I've changed things twice since then. Hopefully the
 last change will make it on the next Herd. If not, close your eyes the first
 time it boots and then update to the newest version ASAP :-)

  Also, i'm worrying about logo consistency. There is almost 5 variant of
  the logo :

* The gfxboot one
* The usplash one
* The gdm one
* The session splash one
* The main menu one

  We must definetly make all this logo consistent. What can you do ?

 Well, everything except the gfxboot should not be a problem. Since the
 gfxboot
 only uses 16 colors we are so limited that it is simply impossible to use the
 exact same pic. We either need to go grey-scale or use a simple (non 3D) logo
 for this. I do not think it would be good to try to make a different 3D
 version to work with 16 colors as it would look too different to the rest of
 them.

  Also, i really like the new wallpaper. It is so smooth, nice different.
  I event suggest to to touch the session splash to include new logo from
  usplash and smoothness of wallpaper.

 I wanted to start working on the session splash this week and intended to use
 parts of the wallpaper for this.

  The same goes for gdm screen. I can help for gdm theme. I imagine a
  background for gdm that use strictly the same tones than wallpaper, but
  with a gradient adapted to the content of the gdm login (centered
  field, etc.). Do you get it ? :)

 Exactly! Man, we think alike :-)

  Keep up the good work !

 There is a pic for certain resolutions included, but to fit all monitor sizes
 we would have to include lots of pics which is simply not possible.

 Ken

Er... I don't know much about monitor sized, but are not most monitors
either 1024x768 or 1280x800, or some other size with the same
proportions?

I would think that adding those would suffice, but I could be entirely
wrong of course.

Incorrect.

Monitors fall into a vast array of aspect ratio and resolutions.

Namely, 16:10 and 4:5. That said, you factor in multi-head displays,
SVIDEO/HDTV out, etc., and the rest of situations and you quickly end up
in a very complicated situation.

Good idea. I was a bit worried that the almost white background would be too
contrasty on the black background as well but thought it was worth a try.

 Great to hear that you like it. I'll still be improving on it, trying to get
 the balance perfect and the smoothness correct.

One more comment about wallpaper : the dark point at top left corner
is a bit too dark. Or a bit too grey. If you increase saturation and
luminosity you should get it. Just a through :)

[ubuntu-art] Incoming Feisty art

2007-02-10 Thread Étienne Bersac
Hi all,

Some of you may saw the new feisty artwork arriving. This artwork is not
stamped alpha. So, let's discuss about it :).

As of today, only usplash and gnome wallpaper has been updated.

First, i really like the new wallpaper. Even if i find it too pinky, i
really love the smoothness of the picture. In contrary to dapper
wallpaper, this one does not looks like a brown ulgy clone of Mac OS X
wallpaper suite. So sweet :).

About upslash. I do not like the new logo. the red is too pinky :|. And
since i do not like Gtk Human progress bar, i don't like it on usplash.
To be constructive, here are the point i dislike in this progressbar :

  * the tiny vertical seperators makes sense only for discret
progress bar (with fixed step). It provide an idea of unit of
progression and user wait the progress bar to push by one
square.
  * The sharp orange does fit neither title brown nor wallpaper
pink. Think consistent.
  * Also progress bar orange have huge accessibility issues (see bug
about that). Since december, i lost my glasses i have to wait
'til march. It's a good test of accessibility in Ubuntu. Beryl
helps. font-properties allows me to increase dpi up to 118 !
Even at such size, the text is hard to read on progress bar.
Please update. Accessibility matters.

Also, who made this artwork ? Is ubuntu-art only a place to comment new
artwork ;) ? It feel like we forgot to plan community themes :|
