Re: [ubuntu-art] New to the Thread
Hilarious, I actually find the image attached very intriguing... Wished it would be useful for something. /Nicklas W Bjurman On Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 9:04 AM, Kenneth Wimer kw...@ubuntu.com wrote: On Wednesday 21 January 2009 05:12:59 shadowh511 wrote: On Tue, Jan 20, 2009 at 8:11 PM, shadowh511 shadow.h...@gmail.com wrote: Welcome to the list. But a KDE icon theme could be created from the Breathe icons once they are made. 3) It is fine to me, though I am not an official opinion in any way. ;) Smartboy 1) It is awesome that you are considering moving to o.s. programs. I do not feel that this should be a requirement, as it will potentially reduce the amount of people, that may be available to work on the art. 3) In addition to this list, I also refer/defer to the IRC channel. What tools are the best for icon creation? (Inkscape, SodiPodi, The Gimp etc.) Currently, for the Breathe project (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/BreatheIconSet/Submissions), we're using Inkscape. GIMP is also common. Though I personally like the use of open source tools in the creation of art for open source projects it's not a requirement at all. 2.) The list is obviously for Ubuntu artwork, what about Kubuntu and the others? Is there ongoing icon creation for those? I'm the lead artist for Ubuntu Studio and I've always made a point to be part of this main community. Though there isn't much from the other *buntus, there's nothing keeping then away. I'd love for them to be active here. 3.) Is this the right place to ask these questions, or is there a doc somewhere for newbies to the list? (Inkscape, SodiPodi, The Gimp etc.) Inkscape is the most mature open-source vector graphics application, I think. Sodipodi is history. For bitmap editing, there's GIMP. Or Krita, perhaps Nowadays, it's common to create icons solely with Inkscape and to avoid additional bitmap editing. 2.) The list is obviously for Ubuntu artwork, what about Kubuntu and the others? Is there ongoing icon creation for those? Well, there's no Kubuntu presence on this list, it seems. You should contact the people behind Kubuntu by their own means, if that's your area of interest. 3.)
