Re: [ubuntu-art] Union mock-up updates ending.

2008-01-09 Thread Ken Vermette
I've updated the wiki to include all the assets, including the svg v0.3,
there's also the upadated 0.4 (final) svg. I recommend using the 0.4 file,
as it's more up-to-date.

So I guess that's my last personal update to the Union theme, for now at
least. New readers, link to the "final" union update below;
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Hardy/Alternate/Union

if anyone wants to take over the theme wiki, please, feel free to have at
it! Also, to everyone working on the live version of the theme, would it be
possible to post your work on the wiki?

Julian, if you still can't download the files, tell me and I'll email you
the .zip with everything in it.

Thanks to everyone again;

hi Ken,

do you have the SVG available for the 0.3 theme? i see the link is
broken on the wiki and it can't be readily downloaded using other means
due to SSL restrictions.

i'd like to have a play with it if possible, as i'm sure others may too.

cheers,

Re: [ubuntu-art] Union mock-up updates ending.

2008-01-07 Thread Ken Vermette
Thanks everyone;

The good news is that some strange concoction of software managed to salvage
the data off my hard drive, so I still have all the assets to the theme; I
can't use tar.gz on this computer (Windows) without downloading extra stuff,
so I'll be loading a .zip file loaded with the assets tomorrow or the day
after.

I've re-downloaded GIMP and Inkscape, so I will be able to complete the
0.4 update and ship that out... However this computer is not my asset, so
I'll no doubt be slowed as I cede control; so I can't give an estimate as
per when I can actually get it finished.

Re: [ubuntu-art] Union mock-up updates ending.

2008-01-06 Thread julian

here are a few comments about the latest iteration of Ken's Union theme:

http://raraken.deviantart.com/art/Ubuntu-Theme-Concept-v0-3-73791834

the close button is disproportionately wide compared to both minimum
and maximum buttons. while it might be functionally smart, it looks
stretched and thus inconsistent.

the search, wireless and battery applet icons at the top don't need the
gradation. i think it is unneccessarily graphically complex and adds noise.

the top and bottom corner-pairs of both panels are rounded, adding hard
black
to the screen area. if that little stylistic touch is deemed really
necessary,
why not make them a colour other than black (instead of alpha)?

i'm still not convinced the window contents should have that gradation
or transparency. is that really the idea or just a demonistration of the
new GTK2 transparency technology? i wouldn't want my window contents to
be stylistically imposed upon by my desktop environment so dramatically.

i'd like to see this with a higher overall contrast. at the moment it
looks a little too soft and dreamy for me, a sunset for a desktop.

Ken, could you post the SVG? i'd like to have a play around. i can download the
XCF but the SVG link is broken on:

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Hardy/Alternate/Union

naturally i get a 403 if i attempt to:

  wget -c --secure-protocol=SSLv2 --no-check-certificate

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Hardy/Alternate/Union?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=Union_v0-3.svg

it seems a certificate is mandatory.

cheers,

julian

P.S sorry to hear about your laptop. recent experience gives me empathy
here.
