Simon, If you use intrepid (8.10 - the latest stable release) then
just make sure to change all references of hardy to intrepid otherwise
things will get messy, very very messy.

Looks like I spoke too soon, upon checking the mirror again this

My assumption is that they're just a few days behind so keep that in

Anjal seems to fit the bill pretty well.
http://blogs.gnome.org/sragavan/2009/03/18/announcing-anjal-the-new-mail-for-netbooks/

The only possible downside is that it still under heavy development, so
you would have to build it from source.

The author is an active contributor to evolution.

Re: Lightweight Email Client

2009-03-29 Thread Lisa Milne
How lightweight do you want? I usually just use telnet for
sending/receiving email on my laptop.

Or a step up from that would be Mutt or Pine which are both command line
clients.

If you want something with a GUI though, Sylpheed is good.

"Claws Mail is an email client (and news reader), based on GTK+, featuring

Quick response
Graceful, and sophisticated interface
Easy configuration, intuitive operation
Abundant features
Extensibility
Robustness and stability

The appearance and interface are designed to be familiar to new users
coming from other popular email clients, as well as experienced users.
Almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard.

The messages are managed in the standard MH format, which features fast
access and data security. You'll be able to import your emails from
almost any other email client, and export them just as easily.

Lots of extra functionality, like an RSS aggregator, calendar, or
laptop LED handling, are provided by extra plugins."

Telstra's Ubuntu Repos

2009-03-29 Thread Simon Ives
Hi All.

I've recently setup Telstra's Next G Wireless Broadband with my Asus Eee
PC 701SD and it's working a treat (This is my travel setup). I'm having
trouble getting Telstra's Ubuntu Repos setup correctly in my
sources.list file though. Would someone using Telstra's Ubuntu Repos be
able to post their /etc/apt/sources.list file so I can see where I'm
going wrong?

Thanks.

Simon.

Lightweight Email Client

2009-03-29 Thread Simon Ives
Hi All.

Can anyone recommend a lightweight email client that I can use with my
EEE PC running Ubuntu 8.10 and Ubuntu NBR? Evolution is too bulky and
Thunderbird doesn't play well with the NBR interface. I'm after
something with a really simple user interface.

Thanks.

Simon.

I am in an area where I can only get Satellite or a HSDPA service. I
went with Optus. I wouldn't recommend them to others. I am not sure
what satelite services you are looking at, but generally the latency is
so bad voip isn't an option. I am not a big fan of Telstra, but they do
have the best HSDPA network in the country - by a country mile :)

When I looked at it a sat service with decent speed and quota was as
expensive if not more expensive than Telstra's Next G products. Their
wifi router is pretty decent too, we used one at StixCampNewstead a few
weeks back and there were no complaints from the 50 or so geeks there.

VoIP works well over the next G network too

Don't just reject an option cos there is the orange T on the box :)

Cheers

Dave
