Hi Winton,

Given it's a Netgear, you should be fine. I can't say I've played with
that particular unit, however all the netgear products I've used have
been quite similar - just plug in, log onto http://192.168.1.1 (or could
be http://192.168.0.1), configure it and you're away!

If you need any help just ask.

Cheers
Callan

PS - another question that you can answer off-list if you like - does
Optus have 3G coverage where you are? Please answer this question off-list.

Hi all,
have checked out router HarbourIT satellite sells, it's a Netgear
WGR614, has anyone had any experience with
this router.
Have asked the questions, and have all good answers from HarbourIT, but
they are asking $185 for it pre-configured,
I can buy the same router from Harvey Norman for $89, so sounds like a
very expensive "pre-configuring", as I am on a pension.
I think I should learn to do it for myself, will get no help from "Help
Desk", no support for Linux, and I live
in a very small town North of Adelaide, so must be able to help myself,
have 2 other locals in the process of being "converted" to Ubuntu, but
it's me helping them (with Windows too), (blind leading the even more
blind) so as I said I should be able to help myself if the need arises.
HarbourIT looks like doing a lot of business in this town, only
alternative to satellite is Telstra NextG wireless which is expensive,
so someone in the town with a little knowledge could be useful :-)

If anyone has any experience with this router I would be most
appreciative. Have the manual for it and it looks like it shouldn't be
beyond me, and I could certainly use the $100 saving.
Many thanks in advance.
Take Care
Winton

If I had been into space and had millions to spend on building a distro
it would be :)

Thanks!

I removed acroread and setup mozplugger...works a treat. Now why isn't this
the default option for Firefox in Ubuntu?

sudo apt-get install mozplugger

Re: Acroread Update Error

2009-04-17 Thread Simon Ives
Thanks all.

I removed the acroread package and reinstalled it...worked fine.

@Dave - I do use evince, and think everyone should. The main reason that I
use acroread is for the browser plugin. Centrelink and my Bank use PHP
generated PDF files. You can't download these things (I don't know how
anyway). The only way I've been able to open such documents is with the
acroread browser plugin.

If anyone knows a way around this I'd be glad to hear it.

sudo apt-get remove acroread; sudo apt-get install evince # :)

Alternative try
sudo dpkg --force-all /var/cache/apt/archives/acroread_9.1.0-7intrepid1_i386.deb

The first method is a nice way and means that you don't have to use the
bloated proprietary rubbish that is acrobat reader. The second way uses
a sledge hammer to force the update on your machine.

Cheers
