In mailing lists and irc chat rooms you do not need to ask permission
before asking a question.

If you have a question just go ahead and ask it. If someone has the
knowledge they will help you out. if you don't get a response in a few
days ask somewhere else.

Please provide as much detail as possible so we don't have to guess what
you are doing.

Producing Video DVDs

2009-09-10 Thread Peter Goggin
I have produced a number of video dvds using PowerProducer or
BurningStudio8 under Windows XP. The basic features are that I can add
video clips which can when added provide up to 4 hours of video time.
The program produces a main menu with one or more pages in which each
video is represented by an icon and a label. Each menu page provided
navgation forwards abd backwards and the viewer can choose which video
to watch.

Is there a similar program available for linux?

Easy-to-find plug 'n' play Linux webcam!

2009-09-10 Thread Christopher Lees
Hi all, yesterday when I was in Dick Smiths I noticed they have their
own brand of miniature notebook webcam. On the back, it actually
advertises Linux compatibility with kernel 2.6.28!

And it really does work. The quality is better than my older camera AND
it works with Flash. (It's a UVC device). It appears to also contain an
ALSA-compatible microphone but I haven't tested that part yet.

So: That's a Dick Smiths webcam, with Linux compatibility advertised on
the back. I think it usually sells for $99, but I got it for
$70-something. Should be very easy to find: Just look in your nearest
Tandy's or Dick Smiths!

Linux C Compiler to produce windows .EXE files

2009-09-10 Thread David Bowskill

Hello Folks
I have been writing (for fun) a few C programs which I wish to share
with friends. All of these friends use MS Windows - although I am
working on changing that!
What I am after is a C compiler which will run under Ubuntu but produce
.EXE binaries.
Can any one help ?
Thanks
David Bowskill

 Hi James,

Can you log into the wireless router and got to the password page and
the right click and view the source. You should then find the PSK key
in plain text in the source page.

  Hi guys

in an attempt to get the wireless going again on one of my laptops I
deleted the wireless connection on it and re did it. However I find that
I've misplaced my pre shared key for the network and will prob find it
eventually and so was wondering if there are any steps for recovering the
psk from one of my other systems as this might be quicker. Either that or
should I just redo the psk for all systems (6 all up)

That just gave me the page source in html. I did however find my psk but still
can't get that laptop to browse the net. It's clearly connected to the
network via wireless however and showing 100 percent. I've tried pinging my
other systems from and and it from the other systems. Always a host
unreachable comes up. Wireless works fine under vista on the same laptop so
so it seems to be an issue with Ubuntu there. Now I'm trying to think what
else I can do to troubleshoot it. Already checked that there's no proxy set,
i.e. direct connection to the net. Apart from that not sure

It will browse via ethernet cable tho
