Re: Hibernating shuts down

There could be a number of reasons, the fist I think may be the hardware
you are running on may not be truely ACPI compliant thus causing this.
Or maybe the setting in you power management need to be reviewed (just
check to see what settings it has!) also have you added more memory to
the system since you setup the partitions on the drive, your swap space
may be smaller that your physical RAM

Not guaranteed, but maybe these may help in some way... ;-)

Hibernating shuts down

2009-12-23 Thread David Bowskill
Dear all

When selecting 'hibernate' the computer shuts down (turns off) instead.

On start up it reports a sleep problem, but I am not sure what to do.

I am running Ubuntu 9.04

Any ideas ?

Many thanks

David

Ubuntu not working

2009-12-23 Thread Derek Smith
Hi,
because we are unable to have ADSL we have to use Wireless Broadband.
I am with 'Three'
Problem - I can access the Internet easily with 8.10 but Skype and my
printer (HP C5380)does not work with this OS.
9.04 will not work at all at 9.10 works some of the time but mostly have
to completely re-install connection when I log in.
9.04 & 9.10 have been installed with various discs both 32 bit & 64 bit
versions as well as upgrade through update manager.
Whilst 9.04 worked perfectly for 12 months, the problems started when I
received 2 x Trojan Horses and Tracing cookies, designed to stop
Firefox. These cookies were passed onto a Laptop running 9.04 and Vista,
through 'Three' Wireless, and these cookies (3 infections) destroyed
Firefox in Ubuntu but Firefox in Vista was okay. The infection was
healed but 9.04 no longer works on this computer and 9.10 only occasionally.
A third computer running XP only had over 20 infections of the Cookie
which caused the computer to freeze-up. Once infections were cleared,
Internet connection (Bigpond Wireless) resumed to normal.
I have had the Software on the Three modem updated under warranty but to
no effect.
I am surprised that all my calls for help in this matter fall on deaf
ears. Either all the experts have no idea or they do not believe what
has happened. I may not be an expert but I do know more than about 90%
computer using community.
I do suspect that there has been a change in the 'Three' software which
affects the connection. As they only support Microsoft they are not
interested in the problem.
I would appreciate any assistance in this matter.
