Re: Brainstorming ideas for Brisbane Ubuntu Festival - Input welcome from all Ubuntu-AU

2011-11-20 Thread Boden Matthews
On the day, I can bring 2 laptops if need be, both 15.4 inchers, but one
goes a bit iffy if you try and overload it (with games for example). That
same laptop doesn't have Ubuntu on it, but I can use it to run a quick
workshop on how to dual-boot Windows and Ubuntu.

Brainstorming ideas for Brisbane Ubuntu Festival - Input welcome from all Ubuntu-AU

2011-11-20 Thread James Beake
I've just posted the following in the brainstorm section for the brisbane
installfest on the Ubunt-au wiki [1]

I'd appreciate any feedback / thoughts that you may have on this idea.

Also a request to the community. Have you have already prepared a talk on
any of these topics or others that may be useful? Are you happy to share
the presentation? Then feel free to forward to me. I hate reinventing
wheels.

==snippit from wiki==

Assuming it will be hard to get people to drag in desktop PC, we could
provide an additional reason for people to come along on the day by having
a series of "lightning talks" / demo sessions on doing stuff with Ubuntu -
a Ubuntu Showcase if you will. This could run in parallel with the install
activities

Some topics for demos/talks:

   - Installing ubuntu (just a talk/demo)
   - finding and installing software
   - Photo editing
   - email and calendar
   - Internet safety
   -

   General Q&A "How do I..?"

I would be happy to run any of these but would welcome anyone else who
wants to run a session on one of the above or another topic. I think we
have access to a projector in the room.
==END==

Cheers
James

You seem to be doing well with the wiki thing, both you've linked have
worked well. My main suggestions on both of yours would be to swap out
the old ubuntu font for the new one to tie it in a bit better.

I'm not sure what the rules on the grey spots/dots are either, as long
as it conforms with the brand guidelines outlined on the Artwork page
though that's all that really matters.

I think I'm having trouble getting my head around this wiki...

I've just put it up on the wiki [0]. It looks a bit funny but when you
download the svg it should be fine. Most browsers do a poor job of
rendering svg apparently. If you're going to attach it back to the
wiki page please just alter the filename enough that it doesn't
overwrite other contributions. I should have done this from the start,
everyone can feel free to edit it as need be but please be mindful of
all the licensing issues. If you're not sure what they are please read
the guidelines section on the Artwork project page [1].
