G'day to the Australian UBUNTU e-list, Great news. Yesterday I purchased a new HP Photosmart C4280 Printer, Scanner, Copier for $90.00 from Dick Smith. I am using Linux UBUNTU 'Gutsy Gibbon' -- and when I booted up the computer and switched on the printer, I went to the menu System / Admin / Printing I was surprised to find that Ubuntu had autodetected and installed the correct printer driver for the HP 4200 Series. I printed a test page and it worked perfectly!!! I then tested the scanner with menu Applications / Graphics / Xsane Image Scanner -- and I scanned a postcard sized photo perfectly. Actually the photo was scanned with extra white space around the image... it needs to be cropped (from A4 size to postcard size).
Can anyone please point me to an online or downloadable The GIMP tutorial ?!? Please paste URL for a tutorial if you know of one. Also... on a different topic. Some of you may recall that I posted a message that AMAROK was not playing Shoutcast internet radio streams... well when I attempted to play an MP3 file AMAROK produced an error message to the effect MP3 not supported, do you want to install component to play MP3. I clicked okay to install files for MP3 playing -- Synaptic Package Manager opened and prompted me for my password the downloaded and installed something. Now MP3's *do* play in AMAROK and so also does now play Shoutcast internet radio streams. Whatever got install for MP3 was also what was missing for playing Shoutcast streams. I just wanted to share my good news!!! -- Fond Regards, Peter Eric (aka 'pew') WILLIAMS My free website is: http://pewtas.googlepages.com (or) http://tinyurl.com/yuyejs (please visit my free website and let me know what you think about it.) -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au
