RE: Hello, Im looking for a reliable Linux Hosting Provider

2011-08-11 Thread Bird, John
Hi Martin,

I can personally recommend https://alienlayer.com/. I'm on the bargain
basement $20US a year plan (which was about $2 Australian until last
week J).

Sure - it's in the US but that does have some advantages (US VPS + VPN =
Hulu + Netflix + etc)

Cheers,

John

Hmm, I go with Jumba still for now, if they have reliability issues, I'll
use the "get out within 30 days and get your money back" card.

I thought reliable was a requirement. A couple recent examples of
issues at Jumba:

I have a client who is migrating away from Jumba due to reliability issues.

You haven't specified if you are after dedicated, vps or shared
hosting. Personally I don't bother with shared hosting these days. I
have a couple of legacy customers with static page sites on dreamhost
and I'm happy with them.

For a VPS, I would recommend slicehost.com, I've been with them for
years and I'm really happy with the service. They've been bought by
Rackspace and will soon start transitioning customers to Rackspace
Cloud. I have started using Rackspace Cloud and overall I'm happy with
it. There are some API differences I don't like.

Email me off list if you want to use any of the above services so I can
give you a referral code.

If you have more time and skills Amazon's AWS is an option too.

For dedicated avoid ServerPronto at all costs, they are scammers.
They're cheap and particularly nasty.

Cheers

Dave

I am getting a VPS with www.jumba.com.au, they've got pretty damn good
value, but it's like having a server in your own house - you set up the
webserver or whatever you want in it. I'm going to use mine for a Minecraft
server :D
