Printing from Hardy to Printer on Windows XP

2008-05-26 Thread Simon

Hi All.

I'm having a small issue printing to my new HP 2180 printer, attached to
a Windows XP box and made available to the outside world via smb. I'm
fairly certain that I've set it up all OK from Administration -
Printing. At least when the Add New Printer setup procedure scans for
the printer it says it's there.

Anyhow, the issue I'm having is that whenever I attempt to print to this
printer from Hardy I'm getting the following error: Can not get the
ticket cache for simon (where 'simon' is my Hardy user-name) in CUPS.

The output from running smbclient -L goodvibes-desk ('goodvibes-desk' is
my Windows XP box name), that clearly lists my printer, is:

Sounds like a credentials error.

What's the printer device URI you're connecting to? It generally needs
to be in the format:

smb://DOMAIN/USER:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/printer

(Where DOMAIN is only really necessary in a true Windows/Samba domain).

The user/pass combo needs to be the same on Windows, Linux/Samba and
Linux/Passwd/Shadow.

Alternatively, setting Windows to use simple file sharing and allowing
full access to the printer will negate the need for the user/pass to be
sent along.
