Re: screen resolution

2008-06-20 Thread andremangan
David,

I have had a look at various lists, forums, etc to find information for
you. The general advice is to install the following files (1)
build-essential, (2) linux-headers-2.6.24-19, (3) kernel package as well as
Linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-19-generic.

Some or all of these files you may already have installed. It seems to me
that something either was not downloaded or not configured.

Another suggestion was to use envyng-gtk which you will find in the
repositories. That will identify what driver you need and remove old files
and configure the driver.

Re: screen resolution

2008-06-20 Thread andremangan
Hello Gordon, David and list members,

Something went awry with the list messages this morning.

I did not post anything about resolution difficulties. That was David.

I have been trying to help him and suggested in the first instance exactly
what you had proposed, Gordon.

Unfortunately, the way Google mail is set up it is easy to press the reply
button and you end up off-list and that is what happened in this instance.

David has not yet resolved his display difficulties. The nvidia-glx-new
file had not been installed. That has been rectified. There are still no
choices to change resolution.

David, try sudo displayconfig-gtkand see if you can change
resolution in that screenand can you tell me which kernel you are
booting from type uname -r

If anyone else has any ideas, please join in.

Open your Control Center under Systems and go to Hardware, Hardware Drivers
and put a tick in the box next to your nVidia driver.

Thanks for your reply.

There is no option under Screen Resolution to select widescreen monitor.
Is this where you mean?

If you go to the area where you select your screen, there is a checkbox for
a widescreen monitor... make sure this is deselected.

screen resolution hardy heron

2008-05-01 Thread martin fricke
I completed a clean install of Ubuntu 8.04. In Screen Resolution settings
there is no option to select the native resolution of 1280x1024 for my 19"
LCD monitor.

The listed resolutions only go up to 1280x800. My graphics controller is
an Intel 82865G.

Any help is appreciated!

I tried many times to change it this prior to posting but was only given
the choices up to about 800x600. however when I checked it just now the
entire range of choices was availbe.
Thanks all

Try running nvidia-settings without the gksudo part. When you do it that
way, you are changing the X settings for the root user, not the regular
user, which is who you normally log in as.
