I've tried to verify that the new libprotobuf works with the old libcompizconfig (by running ccsm and changing a few settings). I've also rebuilt libcompizconfig against the new libprotobuf. protobuf-c only exists in Karmic. libcompizconfig only build-deps on libprotobuf-dev in Jaunty/Karmic. I'll try to test that.
