[Bug 406680] Re: Please backport protobuf 2.0.3-2.2ubuntu1 from Karmic to Hardy, Intrepid, and Jaunty

2009-07-29 Thread Evan Broder
I've tried to verify that the new libprotobuf works with the old
libcompizconfig (by running ccsm and changing a few settings). I've also
rebuilt libcompizconfig against the new libprotobuf. That build
succeeded, and ccsm seems to still work under that version of
libcompizconfig as well.

[Bug 406680] Re: Please backport protobuf 2.0.3-2.2ubuntu1 from Karmic to Hardy, Intrepid, and Jaunty

2009-07-29 Thread Evan Broder
protobuf-c only exists in Karmic.

libcompizconfig only build-deps on libprotobuf-dev in Jaunty/Karmic.
I'll try to test that.

None of the other binary packages have any build-deps or deps in Jaunty.

[Bug 406680] Re: Please backport protobuf 2.0.3-2.2ubuntu1 from Karmic to Hardy, Intrepid, and Jaunty

2009-07-29 Thread Scott Kitterman
There do appear to be some rdepends. Have you tested these?

$ reverse-build-depends libprotobuf-dev
Reverse Build-depends in universe:
-

protobuf-c

Found a total of 1 reverse build-depend(s) for libprotobuf-dev.

Reverse Build-depends in multiverse:
--

No reverse build-depends found for libprotobuf-dev.

Reverse Build-depends in main:
--

libcompizconfig

You'll need to check for build-depends and runtime depends for each
binary produced by protobuf and make sure they all work.

[Bug 406680] [NEW] Please backport protobuf 2.0.3-2.2ubuntu1 from Karmic to Hardy, Intrepid, and Jaunty

2009-07-29 Thread Evan Broder
Public bug reported:

Google's protocol buffers are an excellent development tool for simple
data serialization.

I have no-change test builds for Hardy, Intrepid, and Jaunty in my PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~broder/+archive/ubuntu-tests). I've also
verified basic functionality using the Python modules on all three
platforms with the attached test script.

In other words, the packages build/install/run.

This sounds like something that should be SRU'ed vs. backported. I'm

its inapporiate to fix this via *-updates, feel free to reopen the

[Bug 404887] Re: Please backport gnome-power-manager 2.24.2-2ubuntu8 from Karmic to Jaunty

2009-07-29 Thread Michael Casadevall
This bug looks like its SRU material. We do not as a general policy do
backports to fix bugs. Please submit this bug for SRUing,

>From the Backports Policy:
Applications to be backported must have meaningful benefits to the user not
attainable via other processes. Specifically:

   1.

The sole purpose must not be to fix a bug or security vulnerability.
There are more correct processes for these types of defects (specifically
Security team and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates). Exceptions may
be granted ONLY in the case that the other processes have failed or refused to
address the issue. Please, for bugfixes, try
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates first. We will reject any
Backports requests for bugfixes if SRU has not been attempted.
   2. The application, therefore, should have some significant new feature or
benefits.

I'm marking this invalid until an SRU has been attempted
