2014-08-20 Thread Marius B. Kotsbak
Well, what you can do in that case is to download the modemmanager
package from here first: http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/modemmanager
(i386 or amd64). Then if the test fails, you will be able to revert by
running in a terminal "dpkg -i modemmanager_xxx.deb" without a network
connection.

Re: [Bug 1076981] Re: Please backport modemmanager 0.6.0.0.really-0ubuntu1 (main) from quantal

2014-08-20 Thread hbchoong
I don't think I have the test systems or skills necessary to be able to
understand and test this adequately (hence my reliance solely on
LTS-tested versions). Unfortunately I am also fully dependent on
modemmanager working (no wifi), so unless I can fully revert to a
pre-test state without internet connectivity, I am afraid I will be
pretty useless here. Meantime, I will try to get hold of a test system
but it might take quite a while.

Would anyone out there be able to help out with the required tests
please?

2014-08-19 Thread Marius B. Kotsbak
Please look at the documentation:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu#Adding_PPAs

There is a tool called ppa-purge to remove a ppa with its packages. As
this is a backport of only modemmanager, it is not very likely that it
will affect other types of connections like wifi.

2014-08-19 Thread hbchoong
Hi Marius - Truly appreciate your efforts looking into this! I'd love to
help out but will need guidance to proceed to test this as I'm no expert
and haven't done so before, sorry.

Just let me know how - particularly if I can fully restore the system
back to its current state after, as its my only main working system I'm
dependent on.
(Also if network operation fails, how do I revert?)

2014-08-15 Thread Marius B. Kotsbak
Backported packages have been built here:
https://launchpad.net/~mariusko/+archive/ubuntu/network-manager-
backports/+packages

Anyone having a Precise (12.04) installation, please try to add the PPA
and update/upgrade, reboot and post the results of:

"apt-cache policy modemmanager" and "apt-cache policy network-manager"
and if network operations works.
