I guess the problem is in physical layer. It can be confirmed if data
transfer rate does not increase when you try with http/ftp. Did you try
them?

You can look at
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Linux_Networking/Q_21824712.html!

Buffer size mismatch should result in packet drop. Try to find out the
reason with any packet tracer (ethereal or whatever).

[ Ubuntu-BD ] problem with openssh-server on 8.04

2008-05-18 Thread Md Mozammel Haque
Hi All,

I'm having a problem with speed of scp on Ubuntuu 8.04. I have one box with
large HDD space (380gb) and my laptop both running Ubuntu 8.04. When I scp a
large file from my laptop to my box (both over WiFi/wire) initially the
transfer starts a a good rate and within 10/15 seconds, the speed comes down
really low and almost unusable. I've heard that there are some issues
regarding openssh buffer size mismatch, but as I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 on
both the PCs, I wonder how can I fix it.

Any one else faced the same problem?

[ Ubuntu-BD ] Linux Mint 5 Elyssa Beta Released

2008-05-18 Thread raihan hasnain
Linux Mint is a Ubuntu derived distribution. As Ubuntu recently released
their latest LTS version 8.04 (Hardy Heron) Linux Mint is going to release
their new version Linux Mint 5 (Elyssa).

We like Ubuntu for many reasons - stability, user friendliness, availability
of packages and the huge community are prominent ones. But the novice and
home users usually get confused as Ubuntu does not come with audio/video
codecs, java, flash and other non-free stuffs. The reason is licensing and
legality. Being a true open source promoter Ubuntu can not include these
non-free stuff.

Linux Mint is derived from Ubuntu directly. All the things that Ubuntu has
are available in Mint as well. But Mint is the added flavor in Ubuntu. It
comes with all audio/video codecs, Java, Flash and more useful things that a
home user will need. PCs with no internet connection say "hooray".

Besides, Linux Mint is targeted for the home users only, so they do not
suggest users to use the terminal. People who are afraid to use the
terminal, say "hooray" again.

Mint adds more stuff on Ubuntu. For example the nice theme and few tools. On
Mint 5 they have improved their tools, added more things and changed their
theme considering the "usability".

Images are more descreptive than words. Check out this Release Note
http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_elyssa.php

I do not suggest you to try the Beta. Lets wait for just few more days. The
final version will be released within 2/3 weeks.

Note: Hardcore users, stick to Ubuntu.

Yes, Tarin is right. Command line is super-scary for those who

Two practical jokes.

My most favorite teacher and idol (I am not going to mention his
name) uses Macbook. He never touches Finder (the WM of OSX). He
does literally everything by terminal. Those who don't know - in
finder you cannot enter a folder by pressing "Enter" key, you
have to press Command + O. Enter is for "Renaming file/folder"
instead. I asked him that Sir, is there any way of change this
thing. He was like "UH, What? I never tried to use the GUI. Let's
see ..."!

A friend of mine asked me how to get rid of the viruses. I
informed her that she can always move to Ubuntu unless you are a
big fan of MS Office, WLM and Yahoo Messenger. I also informed
her that Ubuntu comes with good alternatives of the I mentioned
before. She replied, "Sorry, me and my brothers only use this
three things".

Re: [ Ubuntu-BD ] 3gp converter

2008-05-18 Thread Omi Azad
But one thing you have to admit brothers. Due to your love to
commandline, Linux has fewer users than Windows.

Face the truth.

Yes, Tarin is right. Command line is super-scary for those who never
has seen it!

Two practical jokes.

My most favorite teacher and idol (I am not going to mention his name)
uses Macbook. He never touches Finder (the WM of OSX). He does
literally everything by terminal. Those who don't know - in finder you
cannot enter a folder by pressing "Enter" key, you have to press
Command + O. Enter is for "Renaming file/folder" instead. I asked him
that Sir, is there any way of change this thing. He was like "UH,
What? I never tried to use the GUI. Let's see ..."!

A friend of mine asked me how to get rid of the viruses. I informed
her that she can always move to Ubuntu unless you are a big fan of MS
Office, WLM and Yahoo Messenger. I also informed her that Ubuntu comes
with good alternatives of the I mentioned before. She replied, "Sorry,
me and my brothers only use this three things".

Some guy told me that there is a phonetics layout for Probhat. Is

Help please.

Re: [ Ubuntu-BD ] Phonetics Bangla keyboard?

2008-05-18 Thread raihan hasnain
Probhat is not 100% phonetic. I got something which is phonetic and totally
sucks. It is called ITRANS (bd-itrans). Example:
http://www.aczoom.com/itrans/beng/node2.html

I guess it is not a Bangladeshi implementation.

[ Ubuntu-BD ] Problem while using probhat layout

But it´s fun also (for me).
Anyone ever played mp3 in terminal?
Give it a try.
 ¨mpg321¨
First install it, then just type mpg321 song.mp3. Using this command line,
you can play mp3 from a http and ftp location also.

Is there any good 3gp converter (from AVI/MPEG/DivX/Real/WMV/FLV to 3gp)
available for Ubuntu?
I have found something called "3gp Converter" which has a depedency called
